Megaman Legends 3 Cancelled
#1
http://ds.ign.com/articles/118/1182468p1.html

Quote:Capcom said tonight it has cancelled development of Mega Man Legends 3, a project that was previously in prototype form, for the Nintendo 3DS.

"Unfortunately it was not felt that the Mega Man Legends 3 Project met the required criteria, and it is with regret that we must announce that the Mega Man Legends 3 Project has been cancelled, meaning that Capcom will not be releasing the Prototype or the full game," the company said on its website

"Additionally, updates of the Mega Man Legends Developer Room will cease as of today, though the North American Developer Room and its forums will remain open indefinitely."

Additionally, Capcom said there are no plans to restart the project in the future, and that the Prototype Version will no longer be distributed via the Nintendo eShop.

Capcom also recently cancelled Mega Man Universe. So what does this hold for the franchise? "Mega Man is still an important franchise within Capcom's portfolio and we will continue to pursue opportunities to create new titles in the series," the company said.

I knew this would happen when Capcom decided they'd use sales of the prototype as a means of gauging interest.

While I half expected this, considering how the development was going, I am still disappointed.

I am more surprised that they are not even going to release the prototype version.

There goes my reason to buy a 3DS though.

I'm hella glad I got my 3DS as a free birthday gift rather than spending my own money on it. Mid July and still not a single game I'm interested in and I got bored of Rayman.

I wouldn't mind some new Battle network games for the DS/3DS, more like the first few 1-3 or 4 not the starforce or w.e it was called versions.

Battle Network ended. Had an epilogue and everything.

If some fans happen to get together and release their own version of Megaman Legends 3 Capcom better not down them down like they did to CE.

I have a friend who was really looking forward to it... and yesterday was his birthday. Ouch.

Speaking of Battle Network, I'm sad that they never localized the remake/crossover.

Just saying i wouldn't mind more of them since they're scrapping all the other megaman projects.

Well deserved, it was utter crap. It was a half-assed remake of BN1.

Won't stop Capcom from releasing a 3rd Gen to the series. I mean the "Starforce" series took place hundreds of years after the "Battle Network" series ended. What's there to say they won't release another series after "Starforce"?

I was disappointed that Operating Shooting Star never came over either. Granted all it was was the first Battle Network with one extra boss and a playable Geo Stelar, but still, would have been nice

Yeah, I suppose. But at this point, it seems that my hopes for a Battle Network/EXE game with online functionality or even an outright collection (since it's freaking EXE's 10th anniversary) is nothing more than a pipe dream now. Sometimes I wish Operate Shooting Star didn't exist, since Capcom probably used it as an excuse to not make a collection, but that's a crazy rant for another day and other sites.

It seems the whole franchise is dying at this point. It's been dying since the end of Star Force, if not even before that, what with the whole franchise being reduced to re-releases/ports/8-bit download-only status over the past few years. Legends 3 and to a lesser extent MMU were poised to end that trend, and yet both were cancelled. Rockman Online doesn't even count since it's an outsourced project and the chances of us seeing it get out of Korea and Japan is slim.

It's a bit saddening to see the franchise die like this, Megaman has been one of my favorite series since I was a kid. I'll be waiting for Legends 3 just as long as I'll still be waiting for a Viewtiful Joe 3 now Rolleyes
