Highest dpm method for aran?
#1
Spam skills or use finishers?

I heard spamming finishers actually decreases dps... is that true?

And i also heard that spamming toss > atk / swing

lol.

Spamming finishers when it's maxed are overall better, by a small amount. Along with spamming toss vs swing. Toss is better but it's all dependent on how you play.

And of course dependent on whether or not the mobs can be lifted.

I may be wrong for the first one, but most of the time, Toss is NOT better dpm than swing at bosses

JoeTang Wrote:With Sudden Strike, you can indefinitely spam Final Toss. With maxed Sudden Strike, Final Toss does 455% per hit. Final Toss takes 420ms on standard. Therefore, on a monster that cannot be Tossed, standalone DPS would be 1083%/s. In Comparison, maxed Overswing does 1061%/s . Final Toss and Final Charge are not affected by damage distribution. Presumably, the best DPS would then to be to use Overswing + Final Blow on single targets which is better (though I think the margin is very small), and Final Toss on multiple Targets.

Finishers feel way to slow to be worth using. I barely ever use tempest, fenrir, or judgment except when I'm just about to run out of combo with no monsters in range to hit, and barrier isn't very useful and is just a hindrance to using drain. Maybe if you have a 4-5+ monsters at the same spot and continuously rolling spin and judgment them, but I'm still doubtful.

OS hits more times=higher chance of criticals
Edit: I'm talking about 1v1 situations

barely any diff, if tossing is fun for you go ahead, if os+fb is more fun go ahead toss is only higher by very small amount of dmg

Rolling Spin hits more times = higher chance of criticals, Rolling Spin is the best DPS.

For the record, Overswing + Final Blow is stronger than Final Toss when Overswing is maxed and Final Blow is 20~25, depending on how much combo you have. Final Toss is always stronger on more than one monster. The difference is around 60%/s.

Finishers never add DPS unless you know your combo will expire soon anyways (i.e. you need to recast Drain, use a finisher and build up 30 Combo) or you can use Combo Recharge to refill it after using the finisher.

depends on your build as well. If you're low funded, toss has better dps as you probably don't have the funds to get a mastery books (me ;_Wink

But since the damage difference between the two is so minimal, woudnt the higher crit chance offset the slightly lower %per second?

He's already taken everything like that into account. Criticals affect everything the same way anyways (except for Final Blow since that always crits), so stop worrying about what will crit more often or not... because you're crit rate is always the same.

Remember that in Joe's calculations the attacks did nearly the same % damage.... only that one hits more often... so with that in mind, have a look at this example:

Ex: say your crit rate is 50%, and your crit damage is +100% damage (just to make the calculations easy, it doesn't matter)

10 hit attack doing 100 damage each time vs 4 hit attack doing 250 damage each time.
These are obviously the same without criticals. With crit:

10 hit attack will on average crit 5 times:
100+100+100+100+100+200(crit)+200(crit)+200(crit)+200(crit)+200(crit) =1500 damage

4 hit attack
250+250+500(crit)+500(crit) = 1500 damage.

More chances to crit doesn't mean anything when both of the damages are the same in the first place. On average the damage will be the same.
