I want to start investing in the stock market ASAP. The market has been slowly going back up since it crashed last Friday, and that's bad news for someone who wants to start up in the stock market. As Warren Buffet says "Be fearful when people are greedy, and be greedy when people are fearful". When the market is down like this; it's the best time to buy stock. Even though all the experts tell you; "day trading is bad" and "don't put all your eggs in one basket" blah blah blah. I'm to hard headed to listen to them.

The best time to buy is now, and i've been doing alot of research lately on anything and everything about the market. I know enough to get started, but I don't know where I should start at. I wish I could find a site that tells me the track record of certain companies so I'll know who is best to throw some money at.

Anyone have any ideas of what companies might be good to start investing in? Also, is there anyone here on southperry, who is experienced in the market, that could lend over some tips?

Soon enough, I'll be taking that title from you Mr Warren Buffet. ExcellentExcellent

I had purchased stocks a few years ago in a medical company but quickly pulled it out when the market started to drop like it did. I would watch GM/Chrysler since they are talking of a merger so that might bring their stocks up a bit. Also, anything medical usually does fairly well. If you have the opportunity, I would suggest a Financial planner so that they could monitor your money for you and let you know what is doing well and what is not.

Yah I heard about GM and Chrysler merging, but would that really make the stocks value go up? Toyota and Honda have been kicking the american automaker's ass for the past decade or more. Ford did go up a bit, but that's only because their value fell ALOT over the past couple years and they've got no where else to go but up.

Does anyone know of any sites that allow you to check a companies stock value history over the past days/weeks/months/years??? That would be extremely helpful.

I tried checking NYSE.com , Bloomberg.com , and MSNBC.com but I can't seem to find anything that gives history farther back than what the value was yesterday.

Well, when Chrysler merged with Daimler, their stocks went up. So I guess you never know really.

Maybe try this http://www.nasdaq.com/ or http://moneycentral.msn.com/investor/cha...rtdl.aspx? also, I can ask my parents what they use to check the info of their stock history for you.

Most online accounts with your bank let you check up to like 15 years or so...

I'm loving the market lately. It's going to make me rich when it picks back up Big Grin

Yah i'm loving the market lately too lol. What do you mean checking your online account with your bank? The only thing that tells me when I log on is what i've spent my money on in the past month.

Google Finance is a nice place to look at stocks, and How The Market Works is a good place to get in some practice.

Things always get better. There have been plenty of recession/depressions/market downturns not only in America, but everywhere in the world. Right now we're in a global recession. I think this is the 5th one? Usually they last around 16 months, while a recession focused on just america usually lasts around 8-10 months. We'll all be perfectly fine.

I am going to remain pessimistic on this issue.
