Topic for an argument essay?
#1
Hey guys and gals, what should I write for a 3 page double-spaced argument essay? In this assignment, you don't have to be right about your position (but you can't be obviously wrong either, that's just stupid). It must be disputable, otherwise you can't really call it an argument!

I've decided to write on the possible subjects:
--China government is making a better choice farming serial criminals for organs rather than sparing their bodies or lives.
--Biofuels are actually not serving their intended purpose compared to oil fuels due to the arduous process of manufacturing them.
--Society and environment, and not religion, is the actual reason why there are so many "terrorists" and guerillas in the Middle East.

Thoughts and opinions? Which one should I write about?

I like the third one, with the Middle East. I'd like to know why they are inspired to do what they do.

What do you mean by religion though? Do you mean the religious institution or just the beliefs themselves?

First one seems the most interesting.

Quote:--China government is making a better choice farming serial criminals for organs rather than sparing their bodies or lives.

Second one should run more like a research paper than an argumentative essay. Unless you're going to gloss over details which just underlies the purpose of the paper.

The third one seems too ambitious yet boring at the same time. Everyone has their own opinion on what is driving terrorists. Terrorists are people also and could possibly have their own intentions rather than fitting into some 2-dimensional model concocted by an individual simply because they looked at some trends and then formed an opinion.

Just the beliefs themselves I suppose. Religious institutions sorta fit more into the "we are government" category, so they can count in terms of society. It gets tricky separating society from religion though.

Yeah I was bending towards doing the first one.

About the 2nd topic, I was thinking the whole time to reserve it for my research paper xD But some people have told to do otherwise.

The 3rd topic is suppose to be more for argument's sake than being right about it. People's intentions could be influenced by the majority feeling and mood of other people that they know/knew. Ever heard of people saying "Western influence is evil"? That would be an example.

It's not just that... If the United States was suddenly invaded by some Middle Eastern intruders who thought Bush was an evil dictator and they ended up running over my house and family with a tank...

I can understand it if someone would pick up a rifle and become a freedom fighter in order to get vengeance under those circumstances. The sooner we realize that "terrorists" are really sensible people like you and me who are the victim of emotional turmoil, the closer we are to achieving true peace and a resolution to the conflict in the Middle East.

Just my opinion by the way. I could be completely wrong. I think that really solving the problem is far more complex than what I just said.

I fucking love this one.
Then again, this is coming from the guy who wrote a paper about the atomic bomb being a fine decision.

Islamic fundamentalists don't like the Westernization of the Middle East;they feel as if they are losing their culture.Take this from an Arab-American who has actually been to the Middle East:There is no such loss, yes Western and Arab cultures have blended but I find that it is a very fine blend indeed.

Now for Shia and Sunni Iraqis killing each other,I don't know. That matter is more likely Social and Economic than Religious. Yes Shia and Sunni Muslims don't like each other (and if you knew anything about Islam you'd know why,its a very lol issue).

Isn't it basically over the next in line to inherit Muhammad's role as prophet. One side thought that his son should be the one but another side chose a leader/representative who was close to Muhammad. Regardless I heard that Sunni's were more liberal and Shi'ites were more strict in terms of their religious practice.

This event was noted in my World History AP textbook. I figured it was worth noting in religion if world historians thought it was important.

And yes, it's very lol.

Pick something you like and that you can talk about for as long as your Paladin guide. If anyone just picks any of the topics you listed, you'd end up writing it then by 2 pages, you run out of content to discuss. Have an idea of how much grounds you can cover to last you three pages. Also, if you liked any of those three topics you listed, you should be able to flip a 3-sided-coin and easily talk about any of the topics.

I didn't need a 3-sided coin to help me decide which one xD But I chose those three topics because those were the topics I were interested in and had plenty to talk about.

On the other hand, I did have issues committing (as opposed to interested) myself to the third subject (thankfully I didn't) because it was far too vague and people will just continue to debate it without end. Heck, I've talked to Middle-Easterners on MapleStory and they don't have much of a clue how it all started either. They can say what the influences were, but any chance of defining any single major cause is pretty much lost.

Compare Barack Obama's candidacy to JFK's and discuss the similarities, differences and implications.

Think about it. Both had little experience by the time they ran, both were Senators, (voting record makes it very hard for a Senator to be elected President,) were good at public speaking, and were "firsts" in running for President, (one black, one Catholic,) and they gave people "hope," whatever you might term that as.

JFK tried to assassinate the Cuban head of state, causing him to place Russian nukes on his territory, causing Bay of Pigs, nearly causing nuclear war. I am not so concerned about Obama's skin color as I am about his inexperience causing another Bay of Pigs.

That'll cover 3 pages without you having try very hard.
