tl;dr - How did you come up with your IGN? Is there a story behind it?
How do you go about figuring out your IGN for a character? Do you base in on the class of the character? Do you just want a unique IGN? An IGN that says something about yourself? Basing it off of a character in a video game or anime? The list goes on.
I usually like my IGNs to be unique names that have been largely unheard of, usually with an "x" somewhere in there. I like the IGN to be somehow related to the class/character to give it a little meaning. I like trying to make the names clever one way or another.
Xarukas (134 Dark Knight) - This IGN was based off of my old IGNs in Beta and early "oMS", XxSakuraX/xSakura. Xarukas is an IGN I wanted similar to xSakura, but with the X pronounceable. If you look closely it's "Sakura" backwards with an X in front. My interest in Sakura itself started off due to my favorite song in DDR being Sakura, but eventually I ended up liking the name itself.
xSevlesruo (110 Nightwalker) - "Ourselves" backwards with an x, the character's look was supposed to vaguely mimic that of a video by Ayumi Hamasaki called Ourselves.
xAvahoza (162 Mechanic) - My Mechanic. I hated just about any IGN that had had the word "Mech" in it no matter how clever they thought they were being, however I wanted this IGN to be exclusive to the class. A year or two back I got a virus on my old computer and there were many files appearing on the computer called "Avahoza". I searched it on google but nothing at all came up. I thought it would be a good name for my Mech. Even though "Avahoza" wasn't taken, I'm obsessed with the letter X.
Xephia (34 Cleric) - A random name I thought up one day for my defame Cleric mule on Scania (not to defame others, but to be defamed. Has -1480 fame last I checked in like '07). The name was partially influenced by "Sepia", and I enjoyed it because while it has a pronounceable X, it's also a name in itself and not an anagram of anything. As far as I know, no fictional character has this name which I like (but if it somehow is the name of a fictional character that I don't know about I'd like to know).
xSacredxX (181 Buccaneer) - I've often used "Sacred" for my male alias and "Sakura" for my female alias. This character was basically a male reference to my first IGN back in Beta MS, XxSakuraX. "Sacred X" was the first real user name I've ever had and thought it up about a decade ago. Needless to say the name grew on me.
tl;dr2 - What's the story behind your character's IGN?
i love red, or rather, crimson (shinku) and dragons, that's why i am a dragon/dark knight.
the reason i sport so much purple though is also a play on my name, because even though shinku means crimson, tell me the color of ryu's shinku-hadoken.
Once upon a time, I dreamt I was a lobster with the ability to open doors with my mind. When I woke up, the words "DizzyDizzy" appeared before my eyes and I've used it since.

I've got quite a few, but I'll start with my main, then my more obvious ones, then my less obvious ones. I've too many characters, so I'll just go with a few of them.
Spoiler
MariettaRC (161 Bowmaster) - Taken from my first ranger's IGN, who was MariaColette (hence my username), named after an original character of mine who I named Marietta Ryley Colette. Now you know where the RC comes from.
MariaCoIette (First 120 WH, now 87 Sniper) - ^
DrMarioPhD (140 Bishop) - Dr. Mario. Healer. Obviously. Though I regret not using DrMarioMD instead, sounds more appropriate.
Paratroopea (124 Corsair) - Enemy from Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga.
IggyHop (99 Battle Mage) - My alliance had this idea to make Battle Mages named after Koopalings, namely the ones from the old Mario cartoons. Mine is Iggy Koopa, nicknamed Hop. The others, save for Morton, sadly died.
Zeostar (72 Aran) - Enemy from Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars.
Sujinpuffy (110 I/L Mage) - My OLD username, as well as an original character named Sujin.
ToyBoxTrial (120 Blessing mule NW) - Named after the fourth chapter of Paper Mario.
Story behind them is a) I'm a Mario fangirl and/or b) I like having my original characters portrayed in MMOs, provided the classes suit them.

強海賊王 - Because I'm the mother f'ucking king of the pirates. But really... I'm just bad with making up names, so I decided, "I want a pure Kanji name," and this is what I came up with.
無能魂 - "Incompetent Soul." I think this one describes myself pretty well. Also, I felt it fit my Soul Master pretty well.
朝勃起 - "Morning Wood." Yep. My guild name is "勃起天国" or "Horny Heaven."
Taunted - When trying to come up with a name for my Shadower, I was looking for skill builds and the skill "Taunt" came to my mind, since it's different in Japanese. So, I used the name "Taunted."
I'm still trying to think up a name for my Paladin. The name I have so far is "無能職" or "Incompetent Class." I want it to reflect my Soul Master's name, since the Paladin will be an Ultimate Adventurer, so I want to use "無能" but I can't figure out what else to tack onto it (obviously, 無能 by itself is already taken :|).
"Millions" (Miliions) Night Lord- I was really rich at one point in time of the game, and I wanted a cocky sin to flaunt my mesos. That and I eventually wanted to have the guild "Knives" so my full ign and guild would be Millions Knives (Trigun reference)
"JinraiHa" Shadower- A mixture of chinese and japanese (Im a tard). When somehow translated would yield "Lightning Blade"
"Shouhen" DB - I made this character because I left the game for a bit. It translates to "Rebirth".
Eh I have too many names to do them all, but my current main comes from my enjoyment of the band Electric Six which just happened to match up well with the 2nd job Lightning skill for my Ice/Lightning mage, making it an obvious choice. Pretty much all of my other names have been fantasy inspired/generated, and most work well for their classes. Not going to list them all, but I'll do a few of my higher leveled characters.
Gobbins (185 Archmage) - Derivative of the name of my original Magician which I got to level 29 before restarting. His name was Gubbins, a word I heard my father use semi-often at the time.
Beguiling (167 Shadower) - I was playing alot of ES3: Morrowind at the time. Taken from the rubbish spell/scroll "Beguiling Charm".
Seikyouiku (137 Corsair) - Looking through a Japanese dictionary for random words, ran past "sex education". Immature giggles were had.
Lampwicker (124 BM) - I wanted the name "Lampwick" but it was taken.
Jiggertic (175 Battlemage) - Nonsense word, using #Blow looked like they were dancing in videos...
Also used to own the name Defragger, I had defragmented my hard drive a few days earlier. Has since been snapped up by someone in El Nido.
FrozNlite (200 F/P ArchMage): First ever character, and clearly played through the end of my days on this game with it. I found out about MapleStory when I was playing Metroid Prime: Hunters online with two forum guilds, with one particular forum discussing the game on a random thread. The OP of said thread was discussing how he had a Lv. 74 Dragon Knight, and people were reveling in how awesome that was (it was; this is GMS June 2006, mind you), and I figured I'd give the game a try.
So a few weeks later, at the end of July, I finally downloaded the game at midnight and figured I'd play for an hour or so and see if I liked it. Four hours later I finally had to log off since I had pomegranate to do the next day, but was loving the free, explorative feel of the RPG that I knew I'd be playing it again.
Since I initially didn't know if I would be continuing with the game, when I asked to create a character name, I just borrowed what I was using in MPH at the time. Unfortunately, "Fr[]zNlite" was unusable because of the brackets, so I simply put in the "o," and "FrozNlite" was born.
And, yes, the original inspiration for the MPH name was the neat idea of a cold so powerful it could freeze light itself. The catalyst for coming up with all of this was a friend of mine from the MPH GameFAQs boards who played Sylux in game (uses electric weaponry), and whose IGN for the game was "Sh[]ckwave." Since I was a highly respect Noxus player (uses ice weaponry), combine all of the above and you'll get my MPH IGN.
PoIarium (133 Aran): Soon-to-be Aran's name, once I (a) decide to play this game ever again, and (b) have enough for a character name change. This is the name of one of the coolest Nintendo DS release games, the tile-flipping puzzle game Polarium, which had a neat feel to it with the game itself and the unusually cool, chill electronic background music. A few years ago I decided I'd make a NL since I was disenchanted by their single target DPS power as compared to that of a LOLFP, so when trying to choose a name for the would-be star thrower, I stumbled upon the game and felt it fit perfectly for my idea of the character. Sadly it was taken, so I had to do the old switch a capital I for an l.
The NL was a Lv. 63 sin that I quit for later classes and life itself was deleted, and the name saved on a mule for my Aran, which, after it became my official 2nd class, I realized would be ironically appropriate for the name, being a pole-bearing warrior.
AdmiralRum (48 Mechanic): I wanted to create a name reflecting leadership, oceanic themes, and whatever else I felt appropriate, so decided upon Admiral (I also LOVE Admiral Ackbar), and rum is my favorite liquor, and one of Jack Sparrow's iconic punch line's, so voila! The name was born. It's definitely better for a gunslinger (which is what the character was originally to be), but then Mechanic's were released and they're awesome, and still a Pirate class, so I switched the name on over.
I've always wanted to use Fukyo Sonoabi on something. A friend and I had too much time back in highschool and came up with the name to sign onto papers to secretly swear at our teachers.
Jinn (and all derivatives): Just a remnant from my forum RP days. First persona I've ever taken and it's been stuck with me ever since. Axel: Same as above GlacialWolf: Felt like the ice element and wolf fits the Aran character. I was lucky it wasn't taken.
Iismagician: Was originally going to be "I am Magician" but someone already taken it so I changed "am" to "is." I want people to recognised me as a magician, so I have magician on my ign.
TrueBlitz: The "blitz" part I got from an ability from Kingdom Hearts. It also fits the polearm weapon. Now, I'm currently waiting for the Chaos Patch where my aran can unleash its true power.
...Well with jed3864, you see....that was the result of me being a silly 10 year old. Jed is a nickname my parents call(ed) me, sort of a short way of saying Jerold. I tacked on some numbers, and there you go!
LimeParadox (Dawn Warrior) - Like a time paradox, but with limes. Love the concept of time travel, love citrus fruit.
SansSeruf (Aran) - "Sans serif", like fonts, but with "seruf", because I hate that area boss.
Fidelier (Battlemage) - Comes from the Latin "fidelis". Loyal, as in loyal to the resistance.
DarkLuiz27 <- Lame. It's a male Evan, so it's a variaton of my name Luisa, Dark is because well, Evans use the dark element, the z is because Luis was taken and 27 because numbers.
We also have
MakAlbarn: Battle mage Supposed to be Maka from Soul Eater, missing an a.
And that's it, i'm lame I know. Now I just use Solarboy for most Online Games.
