Perhaps a solution to the "what class" threads?
#1
tl;dr
Fill out the survey, if enough people answer there'll be no more "which class" threads ever again. Smile

What's this?
I'm starting up a study in an attempt to alleviate all these "what class should I play?" threads.

Apparently (according to this thread: http://www.basilmarket.com/forum/2000504/) quite a few people who made Corsairs also enjoy playing Shadowers and Dark Knights. (I'm one of those people).

So I'm thinking, is there another "way" to "sort" people?

Hence my opening up of such a study. Think of it as a Sorting Hat... add data to the Hat, and then you enter your specifications/traits and then you'll get your House. Or, in this case, your class recommendation.

SO WITHOUT FURTHER ADO, here be the survey for the study:

Results+Conclusions:
Will be posted when I've gathered enough data. Tongue

No, this doesn't solve the issue as people won't read it. We already have a preventive measure, doing these threads is against the rules.

solarboy, solarboy, solarboy. That rule applies to Maple Q and A, not Maple Discussion. And even if it was in Maple Q and A it doesn't break the rule.

I kinda want to update my "Choose Your Class Spoiler Maze" thread but I haven't played Maplestory in ages.

Idea is in the right direction, but your survey is extremely lacking. Some of the questions just did not work for whatever you thought it would accomplish.

I'm sorry to hear that, but perhaps it was forward of me to assume that this isn't a "what class" thread but instead a solution for such?

The survey actually goes a bit deeper than what I think you mean, but yeah, it is a bit lacking. What else should I add, then? xD

Just made my own chart here:

Which class should I play?

a) Got a ton of money?
Yes - > Whatever, you'll win. Preferably Dual Blade or Mechanic.
No -> Who cares, you'll suck.

b) Wait, wat?
Get some NX now!

1) I don't think there's a single question that isn't required. So what's the point of saying it's required?
2) "power v fun" is extremely ambiguous especially when power is entirely variable and has much less to do with the class. Long as we're talking about adventurers only of course.
3) "bossing"? Who is honestly going to say no to that?
4) "saving pots or power" is implying that you can't have both.
5) "henehoing or training" What the f'uck?
6) "3 extensions" Being indifferent and knowing this would happen are two different things and the question is obviously assuming that the persons response is based on the content being implemented when it obviously is not always the case. I can be pissed off and know that it would happen from an extension, and neither response has much to do with the content because i usually HT asap after SCs/patches.
7) "hacker" question. Since when does your relation to the actual person not have any weight on the decision? If my friend were a hacker i simply wouldn't care both because he's my friend and because it's not like he's hacking me. This response is not part of the survey.
8) "big bang ring" Don't see relevance to the point of the study.
9) You know the horoscopes are completely wrong right?

I filled it out, but forgot to count my explorer ring mules (level 50 fighter, f/p, crossbowman, assassin). Ah well.

2) "power v fun" is extremely ambiguous especially when power is entirely variable and has much less to do with the class. Long as we're talking about adventurers only of course. Eh. No response to that.
3) "bossing"? Who is honestly going to say no to that? 12% of people did.
4) "saving pots or power" is implying that you can't have both. Would you rather save pots or have more power, is the question, Like Bowmasters pre-BB, I think, many needed HP Washing but they were very strong.
5) "henehoing or training" What the f'uck? How else could I put it? Would you rather socialize or train?
6) "3 extensions" Being indifferent and knowing this would happen are two different things and the question is obviously assuming that the persons response is based on the content being implemented when it obviously is not always the case. I can be pissed off and know that it would happen from an extension, and neither response has much to do with the content because i usually HT asap after SCs/patches. Er, okay.
7) "hacker" question. Since when does your relation to the actual person not have any weight on the decision? If my friend were a hacker i simply wouldn't care both because he's my friend and because it's not like he's hacking me. This response is not part of the survey. I was trying to say, "save your friend or follow the guild?". I could of worded it better.
8) "big bang ring" Don't see relevance to the point of the study. Wait till last minute or do things ASAP? Think about it. If you're more prone to being lazy then you might be better for classes that are more spammy and require less skill.
9) You know the horoscopes are completely wrong right?Well, I did put "just curious". Tongue

Seriously... I mean it's nice to technically gather a census but really? Why is this still an issue. You play the class you enjoy playing. The only people who care about what class they should play, are those obsessed with damage or extremely new players. I mean, if you're even remotely associated with people who boss, you can probably boss. Hell, you don't even need to have a guild to go Zak anymore. Whatever class you want to play is no one's decision but your own. Nowadays you can probably test out ALL of the classes if you really wanted to.

This does not necessarily mean I'm targeting the op. It's just a general statement to all those asking "What's the best job" or "Which job should I choose"

some of your questions are based on your assumption of your audience. For example the "Have you been scammed, then scammed again?" This type of question implies that the surveyor has in fact been scammed. Thus it isn't a particularly good question to ask. If you get rid of questions that imply the survey taker has said action, your survey would be a lot better.

Another example are the patch extension questions. They all assume a negative stance toward nexon which may or may not affect the results of your survey. Clean up these types of things, and you'll have a decent survey, but i'm sure one of the spoiler maze ones would be just as efficient t deciding this type of stuff.

What about people who've never gotten a specific job past 40? There's no "None" option, only a "I've never played [Job]" option.

You added an option for people to choose their servers...then didn't do anything about the questions? MSEA hasn't had the Big Bang patch yet, and you expect MSEA players to answer questions about Big Bang and the evolving rings?

Though I'm not sure this will help the "What class?" threads, I really enjoyed the survey and seeing the results. Nice work.

Well honestly, there's more than enough videos on youtube of every class being played, more than enough information out there on each class, and more than enough "ask a class" threads. People just need to quit being lazy fucks and find the information they need/want themselves. It's easily found, easily accessed, and even if some stuff isn't quite as easy to find, there's the "ask a class" threads.

Are you going to crosscheck all combinations so you can see the connections like you said in your first post? What you get now is "wow there's more people with a lv 40+ aran than DK's". Well duuh? I wanne know if people enjoyed playing a DK if they also like playing a jobX.
Or 160 people have a mechanic, and only 106 people enjoyed playing it. That is interesting information, but it doesn't explicitly show that only 66% of all people liked playing their mechanic, while 91% enjoyed their marksman.

40+ is much too low IMO, you should have added 80+ and 130+ too. That way there could be a "X% of the level 40 job Y were levelled to 70/120". And "X% of people enjoyed 70-130 and Y% enjoyed 130+" Because I for example enjoyed my BM till level 130 but after that I think they're aweful.

Anyways 328 people filling in a servey is pretty good and it shows some interesting graphs: Joined in which year is exponentially declining for example :O

You should make a "WHAT I LEARNED" and sum up all points like "blaze wizard is the rarest job", "MM gets highest enjoyed playing score" and so on Smile

Having the aran on the warrior jobs you leveled past 40 is lame. Pretty much everyone that was around when they came out made one to level 70 because of the ring event, not because they liked them.
