"Ks'ing" is not kill STEALING... It's kill "Sharing".
#1
I know this post is prolly' gonna finish my stay at SouthPerry; but I'm ready to martyr
so let's do this.

This is going to be a long drawn out rant about one of the most bitched about topics in the whole of MapleStory; yes, I am talking about "Kill Stealing".

There are different levels of Ks'ing I think... Meaning, that there's a difference between some lvl 70 simply OWNING Kerning mall (as one might do at the date of this writing, for the drops), and some level 200 coming in and owning BigFoot, after a lvl 105 guy had spent 14 minutes trying to kill him. All "Ks'es" are not equal.

But... (And there's always a "but")...

Some things about the very concept of this need to be laid out.

I am 26 years old... (Go ahead, make yer' jokes).
And I remember "back in tha day".

Back in my day, when I had the original NES, if I was playing SuperMario/Duckhunt
and then suddenly a Luigi popped up and started hopping on the turtles around me, I would not have been like:

"Dude change games! You're fucking up my high score!!!!!111111"

What I'm getting at; is that Ks'ing is one of the things that make MMORPGS better than just regular RPGs.

Back in my day, I got kinda bored as the cast of Chrono Trigger kept on doing the same things, and saying the same things, over and over again, as I once again beat the game.

What I'm saying is that KS'ing itself, is a dynamic of the game itself.
If you truly never want to ever be KS'd, then just play Final Fantasy.
The NPC's will only do what you want them to do (or whatever they "DO").

And you can play your RPG in peace.

But for me...

The very reason I wanted to play an MMORPG AT ALL, was because it provided at least a semblance of actual human interaction. And I would venture to guess that's the same reason most of us "true dorks", decided to move onto MMO from the old RPGs.

Yet I digress:

My thesis, is that KS'ing does actually count as a form of human interaction.
SURE! It's not the kind that you want, and it slows down yer' "Master Plan".
But honestly if you don't like it that much... Again play a console RPG, play a game where everything is already programmed from the get-go, that way if they program an object designed to KS you, you at least know it was purposefully part of the game.

I guess what I'm getting at is the Maple "Meta-Game".
The Game Within the Game (And I am not talking about Match Cards.)

For instance:
Most of the Maple Populous that knows about it, is excited about PvP.
But when you really think about it, isn't KS'ing basically PvP?
Isn't it us, comparing whose stronger, while still (hopefully) having fun and playing?

I think it is.

The very concept of kill stealing was purposefully built into Maple.

Because the very concept of Maple is thus:

"Let's make a free 2-D game (that people will still shell out money for), and let's let them interact with one another while they play it".

The big selling point of maple is that it's MMO (trust me if it wasn't, I would have checked out the new Star Ocean).

But the very thing that makes an MMORPG BETTER than yer' average non-MMO, is that.... Well.... We are not just constricted to interacting with the programmers code.

We could meet a cool new real friend...
OR... We could meet a horrible "Hitler-Equivalent" Bastard...

Anyone that says that Ks'ing is bad...
Is either too young or too forgetful to remember how it used to be...

When you had to play games by yourself.

I do not agree.

The majority of players in this game sit anywhere between 10 and 16 years old. I hate those people, and I want to interact with them as little as possible. KS'ing promotes a terrible attitude of muscling your way into someone's business because you didn't have the foresight to try and snag a map before peak hours came around(not saying "you" as in OP, just speaking from the perspective of someone being KSd).

KS'ing is one of the most infuriating aspects of this game. When I see Johnny SoulDriverSpam come into my map and start hurping it up because his ability is overpowered, im not thinking "this guy could be my next friend." Actually, im thinking, "Wow, this guy is a plum, and I really hate soul driver."

Maplestory promotes kind and fun human interaction through the buddy system, guilds, and party quests. You can make alot of friends doing these things. I have never, in my life, met anyone who has made a friend because some cockend came in and started rolling his face on the keyboard.

Angry Dome thread?

Anyway, kill stealing is pretty douchebaggy. Sharing a map is one thing, but going into my map and taking my kills is another. If there's an open platform and I don't have a use for it, then sure you can take it. You're not going to get my respect by barging into my god damn map and attacking my monsters.

How are you justifying KSing when

Nexon's Terms of Service Wrote:Engage in rude, unlawful, harassing, vulgar, obscene, hateful, threatening, abusive or otherwise objectionable behavior, including, without limitation, looting, kill stealing, making sexual comments and/or cursing;
is against the rules?

Why would you call it "Kill Sharing" when the person being KSed doesn't want to share to begin with? You are not obligated to share a map, nor are you obligated to have someone sap your EXP by taking what's left of your mobs. And even if you ask the person to simply share the map by moving to another platform, they usually don't comply. Why would I have to let them take my kills if they don't even want to share without disrupting both parties?

Also, making a new friend is a stupid reason to justify KSing when the majority of people who KS to begin with aren't trying to be friends with you but are trying to get you out of the map. Some form of sharing, eh?

Dude, If someone asks nicely for me to "CC", I evaluate the situation, and then decide whose an pimento.

If it's me... I may leave or stay... Their thoughts and opinions truly have almost no bearings on my actions...

Yet they do...

It honestly depends on what mood I'm in.

I guess my argument is, that in a world of ZERO ks'ing... It'd be a more boring game.
And I personally play this game because I'm trying to avoid "boredness".

It's like a not so fun function that the game designers didn't intend to be a part of the game...
But I'm of the opinion that the more functions my game has (whatever they may be), the better.

We the players can create whatever "Meta-Games" we choose to create... Ks'ing was just the most Darwinian one that came into being.

I'mma keep this simple:

Disagree.

Kill stealing, in any form, is stupid. There's no reason for it... The only case where it may be considered "okay" is if two people both try to "KS" eachother out of fun or sport, rather than to be an ass.

In JapanMS, we don't tolerate kill stealing at all. Comparing that to my times in GMS, where I was getting KSed everywhere, all of the time, JapanMS is heaven. There's absolutely nothing fun about KSing in GMS. It's just flat out stupid for players to harass others in such a way.

NeoVicious Wrote:Dude, If someone asks nicely for me to "CC", I evaluate the situation, and then decide whose an pimento.

Well yeah, if someone comes in the map and you ask them to change channels, it's common courtesy that they leave. If they don't, that's fine, as long as they don't take my kills. When they take my kills, making my playing experience worse, that's when things go bad.

NeoVicious Wrote:I guess my argument is, that in a world of ZERO ks'ing... It'd be a more boring game.

So your idea of fun is to worsen others' playing experiences by further proving the point that all KSers are immature brats. Age doesn't define intelligence. You're breaking the rules and making others hate you so you can have some fun.

NeoVicious Wrote:It's like a not so fun function that the game designers didn't intend to be a part of the game...
But I'm of the opinion that the more functions my game has (whatever they may be), the better.

If they didn't implement it as part of the game's code, it's not a function. You can't add unwritten functions to a game's code that suddenly "appear." If that happens, that's either a glitch or a hack and KSing is neither. So it's stupid to call KSing an unintended "function" from the game developers.

NeoVicious Wrote:We the players can create whatever "Meta-Games" we choose to create... Ks'ing was just the most Darwinian one that came into being.

Just like how people in the real world can create their own rules of fun, such as stealing and bullying (both of what KSing can be categorized under), but that doesn't make them acceptable to the general public and thus makes them punishable by higher law (KSing can get you banned. It has happened, albeit not often. It falls under harrassment).

I believe in might makes right, as opposed to most of these people. I don't believe that there's any ''justified'' noble way to act simply because you're not killing the monsters on a map someone ''got to first''. However, I cannot see myself ignorantly going into other channels and ruining someones day simply for my benefit, even if I can justify it and convince myself that I'm ksing an pimento so it's suddenly justified.

However, when people ks me, I tell myself ''I guess it's nothing personal, just buisiness'', I stay in the ch, and I ks them back until one of us leaves. I don't ''report'' them, or sit there morally belittling them for 10 hours, I ignore them and continue killing.

I hate it when people try to justify KSing, and to a lesser extent, it slightly annoys me to hear the replies of people who hate ksing. But I can understand their pain much more.

You Sir or Madam didn't get the vibe.

Let me lay it out for you:

It wasn't your map before you got there
It Isn't your map while you are there
And it wont still be your map when you leave.

You are literally mad, because someone is "slowing down my freetime"...

It's like you're playing Soccer and you're saying:

"This guy just came in the game and is kicking more balls than me!!!!!!111111"

Dude....

It's yer day off.
You are playing a game.

And to anyone who responds to this:

There's really no reason to bring the T.O.S. argument into this.
Nexon Violates MY TOS when they Auto-ban people FOR NO REASON.

It's be nice if you could say the above wasn't true but it is...

The official rules of Maple are outlined in what the programmers will allow you to do without hacking.

Just because you were at a map before me, does not entail that I am "KSing" you, it simply means that you got to that map first.

It's simple logic that was laid out in ancient Greece.

"Just Because A follows B, DOES NOT MEAN, that B is dependent upon A".

i.e. - Just cuz you got to the free map on the free MMORPG first, does not mean you have the right to tell anyone other than yourself, to do anything, other than "Dont Rape me, Don't Steal From me, Don't pineapple my wife, and don't kill me".

You're like an ancient hunter saying "I was hunting that deer first!"

yeah we know....

We need a deer too.

This. Close this thread right now.

Your thought process in this thread is so incoherent it's almost as if you have ADHD going from Mario Bros to Chrono Trigger to PvP.

First things first. KS-ing is a form of harassment. It's a reportable offense in MapleStory that can lead you to being banned. It's in your best interest and the interest of others that you refrain from such actions. I've known both friends and enemies to be banned in game for misconduct. KS-ing isn't out of that realm. And should you be banned in the future for this type of behavior, the people at Nexon aren't going to respond to your tickets in a fashion you like.

Second thing, you treat KS-ing as if it's bragging. You done it in other threads, bragged there as well, and now trying to justify it as PvP and proving who is stronger. That's not what the game was made for. The game was made for friendly interactions as can be seen through the guild system, party system, party quests, party zones, etc. where people are supposed to play together, not try to be the bigger douchebag.

Third thing, it's something called "common courtesy" that you evaluate the map, the people in the map, and what they're doing first before attacking. This is something you should have been able to figure out yourself seeing as you're 26 years of age and should know better on how to act. It is not hard to change channel if you're looking for a map. But through the things you've said, I'm under the impression that you're not looking for maps, but looking for someone weak to pick on.
#13
I believe his arguement is that.

If you are not attacking the monster, you don't ''own it'', so even if it's in the same map. It's not ksing.

There is a rule against kill stealing, however, there is no rule against map invading.

The tos doesn't mean pomegranate and his arguement stands, as stupid as it is.

I'm sorry but you are an idiot. MapleStory isn't a competition "sport". It's idiots like you who make it into something it should not be.

Yeah, okay. It's justifiable because you make your own rules and Nexon's preset rules, which you agreed to when you signed up for and downloaded the game, are invalid because you didn't read their set of rules nor do you think anyone should have a higher authority than you. Am I right about that? That's sure what you're making it sound like what you're saying. For a 26 year-old, you sure seem to have a huge lack of judgement and maturity.

I would also like to add that maybe you should go look at Nexon's terms of service and read the part where they say, "We may refuse to give service at any time for any reason."

Here's a metaphor I got from Basilmarket:
You're in the public bathroom taking a whiz. Suddenly, some guy pushes you aside and pees in your urinal and all over you in the process of pushing you aside. Public bathrooms don't belong to anyone, so does that mean him pushing you aside to use is justified? Will you take it and go "Okay, there's plenty other urinals" and brush it off or go "pineapple you man. I was here 1st, what's your problem"?

Exact same concept.
#19
Sorry, but you're indeed digging a hole for yourself with the thread alone. KS-ing was not an intended part of the game, and is a very unfun waste of time because 99% of the time it's for selfish/stupid reasons and the other 1% MAY be bored friends trying to see who's stronger. Then you have the people KS-ing because they want a reason to feel big; there's absolutely no "sharing" in that at all. I can agree it makes the game more interesting, but nothing else. If you want PvP, you go PvP the way the game intended you to PvP, and NOT making someone's life miserable.
#20
i'll just go ahead and say that your arguments aren't what i'm concerned with because i've seen stupider but what strikes me is why you didn't just post this in the angry dome thread if you're worried about being banned..
