Questions regarding meso buyers
#1
So I understand why GMs ban botters and hackers in most games (exploitation of game code that could be taken further, unfairness for legit players) but what are the reasons behind banning meso buyers/sellers? I mean, assuming that those websites don't give you keyloggers. Serious question. At first I thought maybe it was because of legal issues (i.e. technically the mesos/gold don't belong to the person, so they can't sell it) but I wasn't sure, or if there were any other reasons. So exactly what is it about real world money and ingame currency transactions that's so damaging to game worlds?

I hope this fits this section... I mean, it involves meso sellers and buyers and all.

They bot for the mesos.
Botting = Bad.
Selling anything that's unauthorized = bad

So it's bad combo.

Because A) they are selling Nexon's property and B) they hack to get the mesos.

Yeah, I noted the property bit. But meso sellers aren't always botters, and apart from the legal part how else does it ruin the game?

I remember someone once telling me that meso sellers/buyers caused inflation in-game and hurt the economy, but I can't remember the thought process they went through to reach such a conclusion.

Rest assured that 99% of the sold mesos are from hacking. It simply would not be profitable to do it without such tools.

The VAST majority of mesos sites supply is from buying from Botters and reselling at a premium. As long as there's a demand for mesos for real life currency, it'll lead to botters who bot just for mesos.

Okay, so it encourages botting. How does one link it to inflation though? Is it related to having a large market share as opposed to what normal players would have because of the sheer amount of money and items you own, so you now have to ability to put other people out of business through predatory pricing, then become the monopoly and push prices up? Or buy up all the cheap items in the FM because of the sheer volume of money and people you have and then resell them insane prices?

It is simple really. They introduce artificially created currency at amounts that dwarf the amount that the enitire playerbase could muster with legit means. Hence they change the economy for better or worse, depending on where you stand.

Basically they create inflation by introducing large amounts of mesos into the game...

But on the same note, depending on where they farm, they also create supply for certain rare items - for example, the meso farmers at Hankies are basically to blame for the colossal Chaos Scroll deflation.

People buy mesos > people now have more money than before > see something in FM (at x mesos, equal or more than equilibrium market price) > buy without caring for the price (since you are now richer) > items sold > other sellers see items sold at x mesos > now all sellers hike prices up to x, hoping to gain more > inflation

The more you have money, the value of it simply decreases, you just don't appreciate it as much as before.
The same reason why monetary policy is practiced in moderate, pump too much liquid money into market, and $3,000,000 will only buy you a piece of bread, take Zimbabwe for the extreme instance.

Too me it's nothing more than selling nx, but getting a better deal, and by better deal I mean 10-20$ saved. lol

Here's how it works currently:

-A hacker bots 19 channels of a map like the Cold Eyes tree.
-Hacker profits selling tons of Chaos Scrolls, making up to 7b per week.
-Meso buying/selling sites buy mesos from hackers, selling them for more to other players.

Also, nothing prevents Meso selling sites themselves to bot, or get meso hacks like the ones that have given us rollbacks. So yeah.

Hackers don't have to waste any of that meso to buy armor/weapons/pots and are making pure profit at a much higher rate than many players combined can achive through legit means, plus the fact that they advertise their site daily i'm shocked that nexon does not take legal action against these places, i would certainly hope they did already because they only stand to lose much of their income if they add the NX for mesos trade rooms.

Then people just flock to these meso selling websites and can get gross ammounts of mesos to buy cheap NX with, much cheaper than if they bought from nexon at least.

The worth of meso is 95% dependent on the type of hacks that are currently out. Have you noticed how price have fallen all the way from $8-10/100m down to $3.5-4/100m in the last 2 months? It's because of that new no delay like hack for mages. It makes it faster to kill monsters, farm skillbooks and PoT, and easier to kill bosses which means heavy undercutting in selling prices because of more competition.

Main place I've seen people hacking is flying mobs... apparently they can vac them. Plus, the player themself teleports around. I've caught a few doing it in town, presumably when their bot died or something.

Since the new report system takes about 30 seconds and can be cancelled by the player leaving the map, I haven't been able to report any of them yet.

In the near future(If they keep pumping mesos like crazy) mesos will be worth jack pomegranate and we have to trade items instead or something to do some decent trades.

But then again if this happens Nexon would put his hairy greedy hand out because that would mean people would no longer buy stores as often.

Open report window, wait to click on "Report Illegal Program" when the hacker appears on the minimap. Then at least you can get its IGN.

Dunno if it works as a report though, but seeing as how all of hackers I've reported that way didn't get banned, I'm inclined to say that it doesn't work D:

Add in the fact that each character is limited to one report a day, and you have quite a useless system.

It's also not too reassuring that it clearly uses a ticketing system based on the fact that players are required to fill out a report.
A more useful way to do it would to limit each player to being able report each individual character once a day.
However, instead of being a true ticket, the report would act as a flag.
This way, GMs could be auto-alerted to a player that receives enough flags within a certain period.
They could then, you know, actually investigate to find out if something fishy was going on.

It should be much easier (and less time consuming) for a GM to be able to see a list of who has been flagged and check it out than to sift through a buttload of reports.
