Internet while downloading.

Downloading anything seems to slow down the internet to where you can't even load a webpage.

For instance, I am trying to download a 700mb movie. On my connection, it should download in about 2 minutes. That's fine, it does that, but when I start the download, everyone in the house including me, can't load anything, the internet becomes basically useless when we are downloading something.

We have a 2wire 2700HGV-B2 router, and we have 2 wired PCs, 3 wireless laptops, and 1 ipod on the system.

Can mean 2 things:
- Downloading at full speed, fills your whole upsteam channel, resulting in slow other things you can do on the internet
- Downloading at full speed, overloads your old router, which can't handle the downstream at the speed, while -also- allowing other connection to come through.

I limited my download speed to 500kb/s and it seems to have solved the inability to use the internet. Although you can still notice some sort of lag.

Download a program called NetLimiter and limit your bandwidth for that particular connection to be like 300 - 500 KB/sec. I do it all the time so I can watch YT videos while downloading other stuff.

Have you tried if the problem persists (without capping) if you connect the modem directly to your PC (without a router), or isn't that possible (modem+router combo)?

Oh my bad. It is connected directly connected to the modem(Although it was the same problem with the modem+router). I'll try out what Fiel said. Because I only limited BitTorrent.

What you also can try, is limit the maximum -number- of connection allowed by bittorrent. Some connections are capped by a lower number of concurrent connections before the ISP is throttling them automatically. Try 50 max, or even 25.

I hardly even get 20-30 usually. Also, it happens while downloading stuff directly off of sites too.

Bittorrent also generates a lot of idle connections, which you don't see in Bittorrent.

How many connections do you have active with the windows command promt (start > run > cmd [enter]) commando: netstat -a ? While -with- and -without- Bittorrent running?

There is 8 sets of a bunch of connections, both running and not running.
