The DSi, the new DS experience.
#1
Today, Nintendo held a press conference, and guess what they unveiled? A remodeled DS. This new unit is called the DSi and looks pretty pineappleing sweet.

Link to a Video.

Highlights:

-Two built in cameras, .3 megapixel.
-Larger screens, .25 inches larger.
-Built in Web Browser.
-Better speakers.
-SD Slot for external storage. There also is some internal memory.
-A new shop where you can purchase software to download for points, called the DSi Shop. Things can be bought for 200, 500 or 800 points, while some are free.
-13% thinner.
-Ability to play mp3's.

There are a few downs to this new model though. For example, the GBA slot has been removed so not backwards compatibility. Because of this, things like the Rumble pack and the Guitar Hero: On Tour controller won't work with it. The camera's are only .3 megapixel and finally, it's Japan exclusive until 2009. They get it Nov. 1st, while we're not getting it because, "We will not see the product here in North America until well into calendar 2009," said Reggie Fils-Aime.

Anyways, what do you guys think?

Dang that looks fine. How good is the web browser? How much internal memory? How big gig sd card can it hold? New power button i see...

Will GBA games be available in that store?

And can someone tell me all those games in that commercial? Some of them looked really good...

but a .3 meg pixel camera? What can we do with that? a 1 meg would have been better...

Will the current ds games be stretched out on the new screens?

It looks really nice, but it kinda made me say no because of the lack of backwards compatibility. That was part of why I wanted the original DS (never got that though).

Well, the good thing is there's this thing called an R4, it's about $35 and you can download whatever DS games you want and play them from a micro SD card. It also plays GBA, SNES and NES games. So, get one of them and you're set.

This thing actually looks pretty cool I might want to get one in 2009 since I have a old DS that I bought for $40 USD.

R4s are ~$15 now as they are considered budget cards. The one that's very awesome is CycloDS :O
Also, you can put music/movies on a flash card like those two, and the main problem was bad speakers on the DS but now that's solved with this DSi Big Grin The bigger screen is a plus for that too ^^
Also, neither can play GBA games locally. They can launch from a thing called a EZFlash, which plugs into the GBA slot.

Just play GBA games on the GBA >_<

I definitely plan to get this whenever it's released. I planned on getting a Lite, because I hate my Phat but I guess I can wait. I don't care about Guitar Hero/No GBA Slot.

Also, wondering: ~16 seconds in the video they show these squarish things, what are they? o.o

osht, they put the lowercase "i" AFTER the word. INNOVATION.

Really though, I've never liked the ridiculous amounts of versions of the "same" system thing, and never will.

No GBA slot? No one that plays Pokemon will buy this. If Nintendo phases out the DS Lite for this, they'd be retarded.

Well, you can compare something like the iPod to this which a refreshed version comes out every 5 months or so, or you can look at the DS which got it's last revision 2 years ago. The DS was due for a revision, and I think this is an amazing one, and well worth the $180, supposed price tag.

Don't want.

No pokemon upping from gba games, no guitar hero, in exchange for a lower battery life and friggen ugly camera on the outside, and a store thats basic existance is going to almost certinaly be to play the GBA games you already could before the port for it was removed? loljunk

And it's 0.3meg camera because thats the DSs screen resolution, >.>

MORE OF THE SAME lulz.

Anyway. Looks like they're trying to fit in with the new trend of gadgets with mp3's and crappy cameras and whatnot. Game systems are for gaming, mp3s are for players, pictures are for cameras, and while we're at it, phones are for talking to people. But people don't think so, so this kind of stuff sells.
