I feel like I want to change my field of study

After two quarters of taking it, I realize that I don't enjoy Computer Science as much as I thought I would.

I don't know if it's the over articulated rules and regulations for programming, or the obsession with syntax over creativity, but I don't think it's my thing anymore.

I've enjoyed the other classes I've taken, of which being are Bio-tech and Writing, but I'm kinda worried about changing it on the basis of career path opportunities and whatnot.

At the same time, I still wanna take computer science classes to pursue something that I've always wanted to do -- design a game, but I feel like I'm not getting any closer to what it is that I have more interest in, which is the graphic, story, and game-play concept aspect of game design, not the actual programming.
But I checked, they don't offer classes for video game theory. What kind of classes would I have to take to get more into that rather than just programming?

BEEN THINKING ABOUT THIS FOR LIKE A WEEK SINCE NEXT QUARTER'S CLASS REGISTRATIONS WERE ON MONDAY.

Meh, what do you guys think? Should I stick with CS for the sake of stability, and I guess cause it still has something to do with my interest, or switch?

Keep CS and take some classes similar to it so you can apply CS to those specific things to see if you like it.

Keep muddling through it because the real life applications are nothing like the classes and you need the degree to get those.

Not everything in college is good, you don't necessarily study what you like only.
Don't abandon it, keep telling yourself you must continue until you finish it. There are a few subjects in school too, you can expect some to be in college.
But when you finish it, you'll be able to work on what you like, every subject of college works like this, just keep working in it. :o

See, that's the thing with college. You're not really studying what you like to do, more-so, studying something that lets you make a decent amount of money while still somewhat enjoying your job. As of last year, I was thinking about switching my major too, but then it'd be a waste of time. I know my own strengths and weaknesses, and I must say that programming is not my forte, though I do enjoy other aspects of the Computer Science field. I always have fun somehow when reading up on IPV4, 6, or if there's new routers and switches. I love my networking stuff.

I'm still going to stick with it until the end, because this is something I love, even if there are some things I'm not so good at. Such as . . . math.

If, after two quarters of computer science, you don't think "Wow, programming is awesome!" (not necessarily "My programming classes are awesome"), then programming is not for you. Find out what you like doing and switch to that. Don't stick with it if you don't like it.

It's not tough or boring. It's pretty easy and it's moderately satisfying to see the results. It it's just...I dunno it doesn't catch my interest as much as I used to think it did, and to be honest, Computer Science isn't as coveted as a degree as it used to be.
Any tech geek nowadays can get one, and chances are you won't end up getting to be a major programmer for some big corp just by showing the flashy degree.

That's exactly what, even if I changed my major, I'd still be studying other things that I'm not completely interested in, only it'd be different subjects. It doesn't have to do with what I don't want to study, but it has more to do with the big picture of what I'm trying to get out of all this studying. >_>

I feel like a plantain for saying this but money isn't really the issue to me. I mean, yeah I'd like to get a job where I can sustain myself and possibly a girlfriend(or further) but I'm not doing this to make the most amount of money as possible while only possibly somewhat enjoying my work . I'm doing this to fully enjoy what I'm doing while still having a viable, supportable career selection.

If I recall, the other subjects I enjoy (Bio and Writing) have good career choices where you'll still make a decent amount given your time + effort, though not as much as CS, and the overall career choices are rather limited.

Meh, I'll see what I feel like at the end of this quarter. :/

Art schools cost a shitload though, be prepared to write essays begging strangers for money.

You might want to consider bioinformatics, if computer science came easily to you and you are interested in working with biological subjects. If your college has that major, then you can try to convert those CS courses to fulfill the curriculum. In my school, Intro to Comp Sci (Java) and Data Structures which were CS 101 and 102 courses were required CS courses for the major.

They have a game design major/minor and some classes are purely for the art aspect...and I'm really not too keen on moving/transferring to another school. :x

I know Academy of Art is pretty not that expensive and/or classy though. My sister, who's already in college, gets letters from them every week or so asking her to transfer/enroll/have sex at their school.

CS and working with computers in general comes easy to me, cause I've been screwing around with them for as long as I remember. What kind of subjects does bioinformatics deal with? I'll take a look at it when I can.

Two quarters= a lot of time?
If not I'd really consider changing classes.
Better do it soon than later.
Think about it a lot.
Also, if you just started isn't it common to see tons of boring classes?
Maybe later on you'll see classes you're interested in?

I started studying psychology 1 year ago and all the classes except one or two were boring.
I know that if I keep studying this I'll be able to see awesome classes.
