Yeah. The internet prices are horrible here. I can't wait until we are able to have less expensive internet usage, atleast to par with other countries.

I use Rogers but it seems to be way above anything Americans pay too. I had no idea.

Speed is worthless when you have to pay out the ass for it. I'm apparently charged $1 per GB I go over my 100 GB Bandwidth limit and my package costs $47 with a bundle for 15Mbps down 1 Mbps up. The next package costs $97 for up to 50Mb/s down 3Mbps up and only has 175GB Bandwidth, which makes no sense at all. You get more than 3x the download speed and 3x the up, but you only get 1.75x more bandwidth? The prices for the speeds are pretty good in my opinion, but the bandwidth limits are just horrible.


They used to just not care, or at the worst send you mail telling you to stop or they'd disconnect you if you uploaded too much since it slowed down their service, but they didn't charge until now.

Lets see

Downloading HD Videos, Updating 2-3 computers, Youtubing constantly in HD, Downloading games that are at least 3GB or larger, and Netflix

Just for curiousity's sake, I've been tracking my bandwidth over the past few months

Dec 2010 - 8 GB upload - 40 GB download - 48 GB total
Jan 2011 - 6 GB upload - 48 GB download - 54 GB total

And I really don't have to think about my bandwidth usage. I just download what I want. I only get 7 Mbps down and 384 kbps up. I'm sure if I had a faster connection I'd use more.

Here's what I'm generally doing:
- Downloading Day9 episodes
- Watching youtube videos
- Downloading maybe a game or two per month from Steam
- Downloading patches
- Downloading TV shows - I keep track of six shows now.

The rest is just normal, casual browsing and e-mail.

Shaw isn't listed there.

Because they have superior infrastructure and most other countries have their internet set up in an outdated fashion. And Canada, rather than fixing the problem, decided it'd be best to just limit everyone and still keep their ISPs earning a buttload of money.

In my province, Shaw is charging $1 per GB, unless you have the poor 7.5Mbps or lower plan which costs $2 per GB. They also have data packages which cost $5 for 10 GB, $20 for 60GB, and $50 for 250GB.

If you think I download a lot, I talked with my friend today and he was raging because if this is active for January, he'd be in debt $1000.

My ISP doesn't even give a reliable tracking system to see how much bandwidth you've used over the month.

I don't know about you guys, but I have unlimited Internet through Shaw. And it's not expensive.

You might want to check that again because Shaw's prices are roughly the same in every province, and they all meter now. The only possible mention of "unlimited internet" on their site is the free Fibre Optic trials in Calgary, and Vancouver. Where do you live?
