Vista SP1 vs. GameGuard
#1
OK, so SP1 for Windows Vista has been out for months now, but for some reason I only got prompted to install it yesterday. (I only do updates every few weeks, and always manually.) Figuring it was probably a good idea, I put it in. Then I got home and tried to start up Maple, and GameGuard wouldn't start, giving me "error 114" because something was preventing it from running.

So, I did what we all do now, I googled for "vista sp1 gameguard 114" and found a ton of threads on game sites for FlyFF, GunZ, Asda Story, etc. Nobody with SP1 applied was able to start GameGuard.

GG's official site has the baffling advice, when troubleshooting error 114, to make sure that all Vista updates, including SP1, have been applied! :f6:

The short version of my troubleshooting is this:
  • Delete GG folder & let it reinstall, no go.
  • Remove Maple, delete entire folder, reinstall Maple (I needed to anyway, because of their bad patcher), no help.
  • Disable virus shield & firewall temporarily, still no help.
  • Roll back SP1, now GG works.

So, to anyone running Maple successfully with Service Pack 1 on Vista, please tell me, what did you do? (If it "just worked," that's probably not helpful.)

Thank you!

 Spoiler

Nope, working perfectly fine here.

Sorry about the overly large image -- was too lazy to shrink it. Don't have the proper programs for that yet.

Edit: spoiler'd

I just got prompted to install SP1 the other day as well. I haven't had any problems logging in with it. I did right click the maplestory Icon and set it to run as XP Service pack 2. Maybe try that and running as admin?

have it run in compatibility and as an administrator. Also have the gameguard files in the exception list for the firewall. Following up on this thread would be nice...
