Nexon uses naughty words.
#1
Quote:Stink Bomb Shot: Launches an arrow with a gaseous bomb attached to it. Monsters hit by it are pissed off and you earn more EXP from defeating them.
Taken from the AcornStory: How to play a Wild Hunter.

I don't know about you, but where i come from, "Pissed off" is a pretty rude thing to say, hell, i got in trouble (numerous times) at school for saying it when i was 16.
Considering the age group the game is aimed at... this is naughty. Goggleemoticon

Your thoughts?

It depends.

-Some- people would consider it a ''bad word'', just like one of my teachers in Junior High -really- thought ''hell'' was a ''bad word''.

So tell us, what is the age the game aim at? Nexon NA themselves confirmed the average age of the player base was way higher than what most people claim the target audience age is. I fail to remember what the exact age Nexon stated was, but I'm 100% sure it was 16-19 somewhere. It was on a gaming site this was publised, it was about the future of Maple after Big bang, the same article that confirms chaos patch this summer .
But that was mildly off topic, to answer your question, no, pissed off is not especially rude. I find it out of place in a skill description, but not offending.

I just find it weird is all.
If anything, i'm applauding Nexon for not saying "It mildly aggravates the monster" or "makes the monster dislike you". Pissed off is a great term which really sounds angry.

it's rare to find language like this in a game or on a gaming site (well, at least not one like Maplestory)

Pia used "pissing me off" in the blue mushroom quest a looooong time ago.

That's....odd. Never would've expected Nexon to say that.

They could have used "infuriates", or any of a dozen other synonyms of "angers". English is a very rich language.
Whether or not it's naughty, "pissed off" is definitely low-class . Might be suitable for dialog, but not for a guide, in my opinion.

I say pissed off in front of my teachers all the time.

Nothing happens.

If you noticed, they re-wrote a lot of the skills for Wild Hunters. Jaguar-oshi? Really? And "It's Raining Mines!"? Come on. <_< I don't know why they adjusted them, but yea. It annoyed me.

Seeing how the game has a rating of E 10+ they probably do feel comfortable with using mild language now. In Shadow the Hedgehog (S> Mindsoap to anyone who had to deal with the horrid controls.) Shadow frequently could say damn.

So they could just be embracing their rating. Then again last time i checked MS's ESRB descriptors don't contain 'Mild language', just 'Crude Humor'

I was surprised that Shadow wasn't rated T because he actually said damn everytime you got hit/fell off a stage.

Anyway, pissed off isn't that crude of a phrase. Lighten up.

Piss and ass arent censored in the game.

Teachers use worse words than that here. :o
Both teachers and students don't give a pineapple about these. Manners is an obligation of parents, not teachers. You just need to have enough common sense to know where to use these.
.
Such language isn't that uncommon. Anyone here played Castlevania : Portrait of Ruin?
"Death: You no longer have your whip power.
Jonathan: But i still can kick your ass!"

"I'm making a new character. It's going to be an ******in."
Or "as" followed by any word beginning with "s."

That would be terrible.

Didn't stop other censored words ("an" + al-, etc). Tongue

OT: I just thought the description was funny, if anything. Along with Jaguar Rawr. Good kitty. :3
