Black Mage subdued them and fused them into monsters, which is why all those monsters are so twisted (And that you can see their original form when they die). Other evidence is that certain monsters still have the warped henehoes, like that blue snail, the black thing inside the shell used to be a henehoe.

And I like how the music at the future henesys is all dark and gloomy, but once you enter the future Cygnus area, music is all calm and serene again, haha.
