...this is a speculation thread not an idea thread. Please don't move it to that terrible idea forum that no one visits.
I've stated in the past that an apocalyptic maple world is of great interest to me and it seems that with the release Chaos! I may finally get to see those dreams fulfilled. Though, with Nexon, it will probably be disappointing. Before my dreams are crushed and replaced by mediocrity, I want to outline my ideas for how an apocalyptic Maple world would play out.
First and most importantly, the current maple world will not cease to exist. Players will have the option of traveling through a time rift caused by the resurrection of the Black Magician. I think weve seen an example of this in the single image we have in which 3 doors are illustrated. Obviously, speaking of the future in the past is a big no-no, so that wont happen.
However, the past Maple world will be at a point where they are preparing for war. All previous quests will be available as well as some new ones in which youll be asked to help various characters in towns defeat monsters and gather supplies.
One such example of what I would like to see is a new character in Henesys, lets call him CRAIG. Craig has traveled from a distant land and claims to be a renowned hero. The people of Henesys, desperate for relief, put all of their trust in him, and request that you help him in any way that you can. So youll go on a ton of quests, each one ending with the hero Craig bragging of his accomplishments and how his training is underway. He gives you an honorary fan badge. After finishing this line of quests, you can go to the future Henesys and talk to one of the refugees who will see your fan badge and explode with rage, explaining that Craig is the reason Henesys has suffered so much. He sold them out in order to save himself even leveraging himself into a position within the Black Wings. Getting to fight Craig after more quests in the future would be awesome.
I also think that mesos post-apocalypse would be sort of useless. Yes, monsters would still drop them and maybe thered be some potion sellers who are collecting mesos or something in order to explain it, but I imagine their being a new form of currency, like a token or foodstuff of some sort. Tokens would be acquired by completing quests, and would be required to advance in some situations. I imagine there would be a lot of information trading (think Han the Broker or the Aran guy on a much larger scale) that would require you to have a certain number in order to accept quests, enter camps, areas or even mini-dungeons (one time payment only). Since this is an apocalyptic world, there will be a certain degree of selfishness (or vigilance ) in most NPCs.
Besides refugee camps, I think there would need to be some enemy camps set up around the world in which captured NPCs are being held. Gaining access to these places could be as easy as completing some quests to having to complete a jump quest to infiltrate or perhaps even some bribery or a timed battle like Nihal / Subway PQ.
Of course, not all bad guys will be bad and not all good guys will be good. The depth and possibility in a situation like this is limitless.
What would you guys like to see from Chaos?
