BB's "low level quest" indicators
#1
Currently in MapleStory, a quest, whose lower level limit is 10 or more levels below yours, will be gray in the "available quests" tab.

One of the UI changes in Big Bang takes this further. The lightbulb over the NPC's head is also gray, and when you open the dialog the quest name has "(low level quest)" appended.

 Spoiler

Personally, as a quester, I find this rather stressful. It's like the NPC is accusing me "You only just now got around to helping me?" (It's extra stressful when all I've been doing so far is helping other NPC's... Haven't done any grinding at all for my own selfish leveling or meso-collecting).

Non-questers might view this as a helpful indication of a quest that probably has no good reward (exp and/or items fit for much lower level characters).
However, this indication also appears on quests that unlock an important quest line.

So, what do you think? Good idea, bad idea, or of no consequence?

If its purely visual then its of no consequence, but I am not a quester so....

I really like the visuals. I really don't think it's a bad idea at all. Kinda sorts things a bit further.

I think it's useful. Sometimes I go around doing quests randomly only to find that the reward wasn't worth my while. This should provide some sort of an expectation for what I'm in to get.

We had a gray icon before.

Now we have two grey icons and a sentence.

It's nothing that great, get over your OCD. `-`

I think 10 levels is too small of a gap to mark it as a low level quest. I mean, none of the ToT quests are "low level", although they would appear so to, say, a level 16x character. The whole "low level quest" thing is fairly vague and generally not useful.

Yeah, my impression was that the level gap is too small, considering how many levels it takes for a character to really "outlevel" content in this game.

'course, currently every trainable mob in the game is yellow indicating 'easy' for my Paladin to kill. heh.

How is this a bad thing? All it's saying is that you'll benifit more asa low level than a high level.

I see nothing wrong with it. WoW does the same thing with low level quests by making the "!" become faded, thus showing you're over-leveled for it.

I actually think it's a good improvement as it actually shows the players that the NPC has a low level quest and might not be beneficial to them.

I'm going to echo the sentiment of almost everyone here, as it is a welcome change and something that can only help you avoid doing quest that won't give you anything significant in return.

On the other hand, from a roleplaying point of view, I also see your point. They serve as a reminder from the NPCs that you decided to ignore them for God knows how long and they're are going to let you know it by acting all "grey" on you. Monocle

As a former quest king, I don't really see much of a problem other than the fact the number should be a bit higher.

You have to accept that others just aren't interested in quests to begin with, so they'd want an indicator of what's worth it for them.

Not everyone is aiming for 1200+ on the quest specialist listing.

On the other hand, I would prefer to see an indication of a level cap on quests 5 levels in advance since that in my mind is far more practical. But again, this varies from person to person.

I'm a pretty big quester, but I don't really see anything wrong with the grayed out light bulb. Then again, I do quests regardless of the reward since I actually enjoy reading the dialogue.

Being greyed out doesn't mean you wouldn't get a worthwhile reward for finishing the quest, you could be level 70+ before you decide to do subani's quest, the reward is a good glove ATT scroll.

Indeed. It is also an essential quest for unlocking Masteria content. Yet, if you wait until level 46 to do it, it looks as gray as Camilla's useless Gem.

Also, most event quests are grey, medal challenges are grey... I really don't think there's that much correlation between grey and useless. It's actually misleading.

Personally this doesn't really bother me much since from my experience the use of a quest isn't always that dependent on its level. Quests that give scrolls and open up content are good to do no matter what your level is. Quests that give equips are usually useful only for the level at which you get them (excluding some equips). Then there are the quests that make you scream at your computer and give you 5 cure pots which have never been worth it. So really if you aren't some quester or a former quest king like me you'll still have to ask around or look up about what quests are worth doing and what aren't.
