Energy orb and it's uses.
#1
After seeing this video i want to reevaluate energy orb's usefulness as a skill. A few questions:

1) What is it's post BB range? Both the initial range, and the splash range for each hit. Is it greater or worse than blaze?
2) How many targets would need to be hit in order to out damage demo/DS spam?
3) Being the only map with this set up, does it look safe to say that orb can be maxed for faster training in this area? As opposed to snatch which would enhance training in sloped maps. (which don't really exist, except dukus, and those are worse to train on than in LHC)

Don't know the ranges but I can help with the damage calcs:

Faster (2) Delays:
Orb - 900 ms
DStrike - 810 ms
Barrage - 1830 ms
Demo - 2340 ms

Damage:
Barrage - 1187%/s
Demo - 1402%/s, 20% ITD

%/s

So it looks like, basically, if you can hit more targets with orb than with DS, you're always doing more damage. DS is always stronger than orb in every other situation though.

I can say that if Energy Orb's range isn't changed after Big Bang, you can make the orb go all the way down, like that fire chain attack the Evan is using. I just wish they'd increase the range by just a little bit, especially the initial horizontal and splash vertical. And make it faster... I mean, it's the only 4th job Energy skill, make it kick ass!

I've been waiting for this kind of map set up for a long time! : D

Energy Orb sucks because of how Energy Charge works... even after Big Bang...

They should have made Energy Charge work like its a "Battery" that you charge (would make sense <-> energy...) and you -keep- the energy till it's used (discharged) and -without- a stupid timer. Besides that, with every hit you charge it again (also with energy attacks) if it isn't fully charged. The way it works now it totally retarded, especially since you can use Super Transform 90% of the time now (after BB)...

Energy Attacks should have been incredible overpowered (non-AoE) attacks that you specially charge, but can only use a few times with the charged energy. Something like the Kamehameha attack from Dragon Ball, on which the Buccaneer class is designed anyway...

This would have been a really interesting mechanic to have in the game, It would encourage constant killing for the buff, but also encourage wise-use of the energy units. This would also encourage comboing much like what we're doing today. A good buccaneer could keep the charge going constantly after the initial charge. Would have been pretty cool to try. That and they could make every non-energy hit = 1 unit charge and energy attacks = 2 units per hit.

If we go with the DBZ thing, BB fixes the Super Sayin thing with the added watk and speed.jump boosts. Energy Charge i think they pictured as the Kaioken- temporrary super strength, but slow recovery. Maybe that's why they have the timer?

-On topic: Energy Orb is really fun to use, but the fact that it's pretty much overshadowed by Dragon strike makes it such a low priority on the max-this-attack list =( I have 1 point in the skill just because i think it's cool Big Grin

Energy Orb's sound is also very cool! Smile

I am maxing energy orb and leaving barrage at level 1.

I would only do that if you typically stray from bossing. If you frequent on a zrun or HT run it's worth the 20 seconds of maxed barrage. LHC won't come out immediately after big bang, anyway.

I'd rather just spam dragon strike when cooling down. (this would be stronger than barr+DS, right?) If i'm at a boss run chances are it'll be 12 second cooldown anyway.

Besides, orb can be helpful at bosses too.

I'm two levels or so away from maxing Energy Orb. I'll probably take advantage of the Big Bang resets and max it. : )

Barrage+ds > spam ds unless you're on multiple targets, or if your barrage is too low. Max barrage + DS is better than spam DS, I'm almost sure.
Then again, if you use orb at zakum, then you might hit 6 arms.

I wouldn't reccommend maxing it before ds...how will you do damage outside of energy charge?

I use Dragon Strike (11), Barrage(1), Corkscrew Blow, Somersault Kick, Backspin Blow and Doubler Upper.

Can you make a vid of that (raw footage is ok)? I really would like to see how that works out in maple! :+)

I meant is level 1 barrage + max DS > spam max DS. Assume single target, since it'll only get better on mobs. I'm damn sure spamming is stronger. :/

Hitting 6 mobs is the point, yes. Though if you can hit 4 arms (which is pretty easy with it's range) orb is useless. If you're hitting 2, you're better off using demolition. If you're hitting 3 and dragon strike can only hit 2 of them, orb is best.

Sure thing. Here's a couple of videos I have using Energy Orb from about a year ago:

Why 11? You don't hit 5 targets until 15...

Yeah, max ds seems faster when I use it opposed to barrage+ds, but I was saying if you're going to do zruns, then max barrage before orb.
But I was ALSO saying, if you use orb at zakum, you might be able to hit 6 arms if done properly (although this probably isn't possible).

BB isn't in GMS.

I'm pretty sure it's possible to hit 6 targets. Pretty sure even at HT it would hit 6.

Question: Does energy orb gain or lose power when it "jumps"?And do you lose your bubble when you use it?

Loses power, and no it doesn't lose your bubble.
