Minecraft Poll: Rebuild or restart

As some of you might know, my server was recently griefed by one of your own (i'll exclude his name for the sake of negating drama), and much of our stuff is completely or nearly gone. Almost no one was unaffected. It'd take.. very long for all of us to rebuild everything, and a lot of it can't be rebuilt, as in the nature and rock bases.

So, southperry, rebuild or restart? The choice is yours.

It'll be open a day, but i'm thinking more 2-3 hours. Depends on when everyone ( or the majority ) votes.

I just joined your server, but I'm alright with either. It's just that....a lot of time was spent on that server.

Oh well, I get to restart with everyone else if it restarts.

I say restart, but do it right. Anti grief mods, white list, daily backups, frequent map renders, et cetera.

That sucks guys. Took me forever to build my stuff in that game. My condolences.

I've been patching as many spots as I could in an attempt to help, and honestly, life won't give me enough time if we have to restart. I know majority rules, but I think the server should be closed until the Halloween patch, then re-opened with either current or a day and a half ago's data (if you have it). Stone can be replaced since admins can produce it. And hills can as well. Take a look at the random fountain with the arrow pointing at it north of spawn. I fixed the landscape there and left the grief cavern below.

Also, if nothing else when building new structures/repairing old, line the walls with obsidian before covering with the surface blocks of choice. I was told TNT doesn't work on them, so while griefing would still be possible, you'd be able to repair with only one surface of blocks. If nothing else, having a backup floor in place never hurts.

I request restarting till you get a snow level. Yeah, hard to use boats, but at least get something different. Heck, maybe with the update there could be isolated weather. If not, try and get a spawn point nearby a large body of water so we can find isolated areas easier. Can't get attacked while on a boat either.

Going to survey the damage once more before it goes down, but I only saw like 4 boom spots which I still think are repairable.

Mind uploading the map file for single-player before deleting and remaking? Before doing that I'd need many many full large chests of blocks for repairs since I don't intend to mod my game for free blocks. If I have spare time, I might repair it on my own over time and then we could have two servers. One for design, the other for survival.

This looks like it could be useful. I do not have a server on my computer though, so I have no idea how it actually fairs.

I think it lets you load a map render to an FTP server, which would automate the process of producing a world map.

I made a post addressing the issue, and Zelk replied to it with "You are a suspect, we'll unban you when this is over". While not ideal, I can understand that approach.

Taking another step and declaring me the griefer without irrefutable evidence... is a different story.

There is a program, I think it is called NBT Edit, that allows you to modify the spawn point and whether it is a snow map. Using it, Erich could generate until he gets a world that looks nice... and then make it snowy. This program also means the snowy state can be changed at any time.

I have no idea how biomes mix with Snow and non-snow maps, so that should be something to look forward to.

I don't know Hazzy or anything about this server, but why are you blaming the guy immediately? It doesn't seem you gave him a fair trial and just excuse him.. What's up with that?
