Is it acceptable to pick up items left behind by macros/cheats? Is it acceptable to destroy Anniversary Hot Air Balloons spawned by macros/cheats?

This question really bothers me because the 7th Anniversary Hot Air Balloons spawn almost instantaneously in maps with macros/cheats. By breaking these, you can get up to 8 chaos scrolls a day. I opted not to and end up with 1 a day. Each scroll is worth around 10 to 15 dollars, which means people who break the dubious balloons make 70 to 105 dollars more than me a day. Seems grossly unfair and I wanted your opinions on this.

[Added] I forgot to mention what these balloons are. They're the same as the 7th Anniversary Hot Air Balloons from KMS (http://www.southperry.net/showthread.php?t=26355). The balloons in JMS has 300,000 HP and can only be damaged by normal attacks (damage is fixed at 777). Shadow partner and double stab works, giving thief classes double/quadruple attacks. The balloons drop 20% pink anniversary scrolls and/or level 35, 43 or 64 maple weapon along with some pots and maple leaves. The weapons can be traded in for silver coins which in turn can be traded for all maple weapons/equips available in the game including +7% HP or MP pendants, new level 77 maple weapons ("pyrope") and of course, chaos scrolls.

From what I gathered, these balloons spawn when someone is in the map so the balloons may just be spawning naturally. The macro/cheats are using invincibility, mob vac and macro (maybe no delay). People who play the game seriously says breaking these balloons is fine and I've seen many people breaking these balloons. Nexon Japan hasn't banned players for piggybacking on macros/cheats for at least a year so there is almost no risk.

[Added] Halfway through the event and the scrolls have dropped from $9.50 to $7.00.

With financial gains at stake (and investments in cash items like pets and 2x drop cards), I feel like I'm being a fool in not joining the fray ._. I know this sounds far off given GMS being in its 5th year but there will come a time when you have to face this decision yourself.

[update 9/8] Nexon released a cash item (36 cents each) that gives out coins. This issue might be resolved if prices deflate at this rate. (CS is now $6.)

Let's see, Chaos Scrolls are 17m and deflating by the day in my server. This event would probably make them 3m if they aren't already 3m in 2 years. It likely won't affect us much honestly, our economy is already screwed and Nexon isn't going to do much about it.

Usually instead of joining the crowd, I try to respond back by buying out other items. There was one event where hackers found a way to squeeze out thousands of chaos scrolls by the second. I simply bought out any item I can find that people would usually chaos (pink adventurers, yellow snowshoes, facestompers, etc), and inflated those. But I'm not really sure how JMS works, in my server it's become pretty predictable what item will inflate next.

Personally I would avoid this kind of activity. But like RIPGobies said, take advantage of the other items in the market so you don't lose out on potential profit.

On the topic of Chaos Scrolls, I doubt this event would have any effect on our economy. Chaos Scrolls are currently banned in our MTS, and the prices of it are dropping like pancakes because of the potential system.

Exactly. Like with these 50% scrolls, I couldn't bring myself to abuse what seemed to be a glitch. But that didn't stop me from buying some in the FM when I needed.

If it's an illegal 3rd party program and you're a part of it even if you're not the hacker, yeah I hope you get banned like the people who got banned in JMS. If you kill the monsters on your own "legitly," sure it's okay.

This is just a 2D MMORPG game for kids, there are plenty of alternatives.

I don't want to start something here, but really to the people who think its wrong. I really doubt that you would keep your word and not do it, Im sure many people secretly do it (NOT saying you all do). Like what ZakumSlaYers said, its just human nature. If there is an opportunity to someones advantage then most people will take it..
Also I dont want to contradict myself because I know that that kind of activity is wrong, although Im just trying to say people would do it anyway.

This is just a 2D MMORPG game for kids, there are plenty of alternatives.

While it is it's still VERY wrong. Using 3rd part programs on ANYTHING is really bad. If I'm not mistaken it's also illegal by law and not by game use. It's true exploits are taken advantage of but theres also a line that should not be crossed, and too many people especially in Scania, have crossed this line and it's not a good thing at all.

I've never done any of those things, that's why I've been a low level, low-funded noob for the past 3 years.

Noted. I don't really want a full-blown discussion on the matter, only a list of opinions I can make a judgement on. I know observing the number of people using maps with macro/cheat in it and dividing it by total amount of people looking for balloons would get me the correct statistics but that's about impossible (balloons spawn in set maps scattered across the maple world and not all player visit every map). So far the dominant opinion is to not take advantage of third-party cheating but I'd like to see this poll open for at least three days.

fyi level 77 weapons can be traded for coins as well. not sure if it changes your minds...

Back in the day when there were more hackers than legits I would go to Deep Ludi and loot from the Viking hackers hoping for some Ilbis.

Why do these opinions matter, though? In the end, how you choose to play this game is ultimately your decision. When it comes to glitches/hacks/w.e, it comes down to your standards and no one elses. Something tells me you're against doing it, but feel like you're missing out on a real chance here. So I guess, morals aside, how much is your maplestory account worth to you IF you were caught, and what do you stand to gain. Personally, RL>Pixels. Take that as you will.

Exactly this. Like ThatWasMyKill said, It is part of human nature, but at the same time, that's one of the reasons of why Nexon is there, to control these things. It is their responsability to make sure that if any hack or bug that could give advangate to some players without being intended is found, restrict it and warn all the players to refrain from using them or they shall be punished.

However, right now the situation in GMS has got out of hand. Ever since the Meso exploits there have been many hacks and glitches that can seriously affect both the economy and the game balance of all servers (if there was any). Some of them are so evident and have been reported so many times that is laughable the fact that they have slippped through Nexon's hands without any action being taken (for example the enhancement system hack, the blue message announcing HT being killed every 10 mins or even less, the pink scroll glitch)

The way i see it, more than thinking if it would be wrong or right to hack / abuse glitches because "every one" in my server is doing it too, I would use as excuse the fact that its right in Nexon's faces for the past 2 months and they have done nothing yet. Hell, they have not even said anything regarding the matter so it must be right

I haven't used any hacks nor abused any glitches until just recently with the pink scroll glitch. But it was because i got so mad that Nexon stole about 2 bill from my girlfriend's account with a hell ban and then released those meso bags in CS. That and that the glitch lasted one whole month and they did nothing.

Exactly. Like with these 50% scrolls, I couldn't bring myself to abuse what seemed to be a glitch. But that didn't stop me from buying some in the FM when I needed.

yeah thai had to explain to me why all the well-scrolled equips were dirt cheap now. doesn't seem like anyone minds buying those glitch scrolled equips! i don't think i'd buy those even if i did have the money.

OT : i think it is not acceptable to pickup the items, but acceptable to break the event balloons (since well, you shouldn't allow cheaters to ruin the game completely and it may have spawned anyway)!

Sounds like a monster for a JMS event. I assume goodies come out when it's defeated.

I used to remember "ksing" hackers when I was, like, 11, on my Cleric.

I quite frankly won't risk doing the chaos scrolls because

a) I'm too lazy to play the game in the first place.
b) It's not worth risking it if Nexon somehow rollbacked, or deleted the chaos scrolls, or banned you, or something or the other. I know the risk is small, but this is coming from a guy who uses iTunes.

I'll say this. Ending a friendship over the debate of "legitimacy" in a game is outright sad. Although I haven't witnessed this myself personally, I would have expected this to happen in Maple all the time.
