They are technicaly fully capable of making background weather effects with particles and darkness textures.
The fact that they could put alien ships in the skies and make it darker means that they are able to make other things like Rain/snow clouds, and rain/snow particles accordingly.
This obviously means that Nexon's been holding out on us with better map graphics.
I know what you'd probably say about this. "Wark wark wark, Some places are supposed to be sunny and cheerfull or dark and gloomy."
Of course! Thats why places like magatia are supposed to be set in the dead of night, but for everywhere else like Leafre, or henesy, or perion. A bit of nightfall or rain or even holiday snow would be great.
It'd be great also to have some maps with a mood to the areas like Korean folk town where every map outside the area is in a calm nightfall.

Those are not particles, it's probably just 1 - 2 layer(s) with alien ships and they just change the transparency when an event occurs (in this case, time). Same deal with the dark background. Also, that's been possible since a long time ago, the first example that pops into my head is Henesys PQ, when the crescent moon turns into a full moon after activating all flowers.
By the way, have you been in Perion or other foggy places? They have fog. That's a type of weather.

I meant weather that randomly occures. The fog that occures in Perion and inside the clocktower is always constantly recycling across the map.

Never APQ'd so I wouldn't have known that.

Random weather and darkness at night would be pretty cool...though I don't know if I would trust Nexon to do it. Have you flown to or from Mu Lung since the last patch?

I'd love to see snow in December. But then that would be summer for Australia and NZ. Lol.

Those are 3 (morning, evening, night) different maps entirely, not one map that changes dynamically.

Indeed, however they did trigger darker skies with the activation of Stage 2, which shows that it is possible for night/day shifts, and as cool as it would be, I have to wonder if it'd be a good use of their time, what are the practical applications past the novelty of weather/day and night?

If they were to implement weather and day to night shifts, then I would like to see an entire enemy and skill mechanic devoted to proper use of the environment. Zombie and holy weak monsters at night, mushrooms and plant monsters in rain, normal animal monsters during the day, and more furry monsters in the snow. And of course, there needs to be something like a 5-10% boost to elements that match the weather, like making holy stronger at night, ice stronger in the snow, lightning stronger in the rain, and fire stronger in the sun.
Something like that would require another overhaul though, so I doubt it'll ever happen. Oh well, I can dream I guess.

A good use for their time indeed.
Give it another year I guess. Sooner or later they'll run out of ideas and will have to resort to this bit of polishing on the game. =/

The biggest problem with having the multiple maps in that stage is if 1 person goes in before the time changes, and someone else goes in after it changes, they're in entirely different maps.

It's physically impossible for the game to have dynamic weather and night affects without having a portal system that changes maps, like in APQ. It just isn't possible. There can be static weather affects, but not dynamic. It doesn't fit maple and it's extremely hard to do with the way maple is designed.

False. Ever used a Cash shop item that adds "weather"? Well, the effect can be kept even if you exit and enter the map. Just make a map trigger it, and VOILÁ. Maybe tweak it a bit and it'll stack with cash shop stuff.
Remember when maple didn't even have 3rd job? What about most of the stuff that came afterwards up to today?

Now, can you make a random system to switch between buffs that has weather effects on random intervals that does more then a cosmetic effect? I didn't think so.
