The potential system and selling your stuff/merchanting

The potential system has changed things in Maplestory. How has it influenced your equip planning, selling,and general meso acquiring ways?

It hasn't; I'm still perpetually broke as I always am.

Equip planning is now basically:
Is it well-scrolled? If so, prepare to blow it up. Have potential item. Cube until satisfied with stats.
Planning out my Luk is practically non-existent right now, with random Luk bonuses from potential items.

This has completely changed my meso acquiring ways. Before I would just hunt Chaos Scrolls, sell them, and not need any money for a while after. Now that they're a measly 30m, it's not worth spending hours at Drum Bunnies any more. I could get a lot more by hunting potential equips and selling those. Also, selling potential scrolls from the cubes I use.

I was a broken man since Hammers came out.

I actually have no way to make money... :| So far I've been selling crap I found before the potential patch, but I'm gonna run out.

Selling unrevealed gear goes well.
Also finding 3 line items with horrible potentials and recubing them does my pockets good.

You must have a lot of NX to use so many cubes. Once you cubed them but need to upgrade again do you re-cube that item or move on? Or something else?

THIS. A 3% main stat bonus equip clean can net you anywhere from 40m-70m depending on the cape. After a cubing session,
I personally sell leftover cubes to guildies but in a non-typical fashion. They trade me their equip and 10m and i cube it and keep the fragments.I buy about 10 cubes or enough to make several adv potential scrolls. What ever is left over i usually sell to guildies and also get a scroll while I'm at it.

I wear scrolled but unpotentialed equips on all my characters.

I'm not ready yet to blow my 17 INT u/h earrings kthx.

I sold my FS, SCG, PAC, Earrings, and 37 stat overall a few days after the patch. I bought a +15% dex HTP with most of the meso (1.5b) and wasted a good chunk of the rest. xD

Right now I'm trying to get everything 3-lined before I start cubing. So far I've been pretty lucky except my belt came out with two lines. I makered an overall, glove, and shoes, all of which came out with 3 potential bonuses after I scrolled them, though the shoes took me about 10 attempts. >_>; I still need to get 3-lined Broken Glasses, Branch Nose, and Belt.

I'm also waiting for the Alien event to end before I cube stuff incase there is something I can replace. I'm also debating if I should make an Android Top/Bottom instead of using my overall. That's the only feasible way I can get Decent Hyper Body.

I'm not sure what you're asking. But I'm at the point where I don't really have much to upgrade, unless I get insanely wealthy. So I'm just cubing my current equips. After that, I'm not gonna cube anything else.

Potentialed my cape and earrings that I had prescrolled prior to the patch. Made a reverse weapon with the items I had been gathering the prior months and potentialed that, followed by mediocre 50% scrolling. I've got around 7 mil now with a few items to sell not worth too much along with a pretty good (pre-mass 50% scroll) beserker, and a buddy who occasionally comes on to boss then spam my duey with his drops. But the game is so unstable now so I can't use my FM permit anyway. My Blaze Wizard I was planning on working on just ran out of pot money too, so I do need to figure the $ making out again...

Currently I have no ideas on making mesos other than what I was doing prior to potential; area boss hunting (assuming they fix the ability to cc in Vista). Although, even when hunting lower leveled ones now, I'm not certain I can break even with the pot costs scrolls as deflated as they are. MTS is simply out of the question anymore for me with the exchange rate's change. For the time being anyway, the potential system + 50% scrolls have destroyed any stable way of making mesos that I know of.

So true. The gap between the "average" and "godly" has jumped markedly. Before Potential/Enhancement a "godly" Marksman was less than 2x my old Marksman's range, now it is anywhere up to 9x my old range.

Uh it makes me want to sell my good equips for crappily scrolled (but potential) items.

Sums it up quite nicely, and I dont even have the motivation to fill out surveys for NX for cubes.

I've always been under average-slightly above and now, with potentials and what not, I view maple as a Pay2Play game =/ It's way too hard to keep up with the upgrading. I don't see much future =/ Earlier today, I saw a screen shot on basilmarket of a level 134 Bowmaster with a damage range that caps at about 8.8k =/

How can anyone without stable income compete with that?

true that. 120~ cubes is a yearly subscription cost to WoW, and i know some ppl have spent that much on cubing so far. you can almost NEVER catch up without spending huge amounts of cash, because pre-cubed end game gear is hard to find, so you gotta fund your own cubes with meso (yea, who's going to use the MTS when u can CUBE things instead?) or with real money. you have to farm endless hours to get base money, and merch your way up (again, with cubing gear or scrolling it and reselling, cuz ppl pay only for that now). a mere couple of weeks after i got back from my vacation i already saw corsairs with DOUBLE my range, DOUBLE my dex. and I thought I was average before.

sometimes i wonder why i play this game. maybe it's because i can't afford playing WoW, lack of money and time (didnt spend a dime on MS so far, only a pineapple load of time.)

After potential system came out, it forced me to re-evaluate my equips and see which ones needed to be potentialed. It was a lot of hell at first; potential scrolling had claimed my Sky Skis as its victim, and that left me weaponless for 1-2 weeks.

And selling potentialed equips is also tricky business, as I found out the hard way. It was pretty much gambling, because I had to estimate the price based on the potential stats, and how many lines it came out as. Sometimes, it sold. Sometimes, it didn't. Once, I sold an epic-stat Black Neos top for below market price, which I regret.

So far, I had some major losses. I did have to make changes to my gear in its entirety. Right now, its going OK for me. Though my entire gear is considered "below average". Meh.

At least you have the option of surveys.
I have none, besides MTS.

I'm not complaining though. It's always been the same so I just make the best out of it. Like, I already have some acc equips, so I can easly go statless on any character that needs it, that's already a boost. I've also hunted myself some warrior potential equips comparable to what was considered godly pre-potential patch. So yeah. I'm still on the bottom of the pile, but eh. Not everything is bad.
