Moar hackings?
#1
I heard from a friend that they're friends were being hacked a couple of days ago. It was only one person, so I decided to ignore it and say it's their fault.

Now all of a sudden, people I know have been getting hacked without even giving out their info. One of my friends just got hacked AND banned.

Is there a new hack wave going on?? :f6:

I try not to think about it. You got 2nd hand information making the reality of it questionable. Not to say it isn't true, it's just slightly less believable when it's "a freind of a friend". Lest it happen to you, then i say no to rumors.

I've heard people say "I got hacked" when they got scammed, or when a "friend" who had their info took their account, so yeah, I don't trust friend of friend's rumors.

As ever, hacks are spoken of secondhand, and, much like bans, you cant really believe what people say without concrete information.

Many probably did give away info or get keylogged, I dont believe in random hackings, as theres targets out there with so much more to lose than your friends (most of the time), why would they go for them?

My friend got hacked a couple days ago. He found a keylogger in his maple folder, which was installed at the exact same time as the rest of the files in there.

He also downloaded it off maplestory.nexon.net, which makes it kinda creepy.

I've heard these stories too many times. If there was a new hack you would have heard about it lots of times.

A guildie in my guild apparently was hacked the other night. He said that he bought items in a store and then logged off.

He kept screaming in guild chat and alliance chat not to buy anything from stores X_X

My guess is he got keylogged, but he keeps insisting that he scans his computer alot <_<

If there is some mass hacking going on it could be another security breach at Nexon maybe like months back? Though of course I won't believe anything until many cases start popping up again.

Haven't heard about any mass hackings recently...

Unless you count the new equip enhancement exploit? I don't think that's the type of hacking you're talking about though.

There has been an increase of account hackings in the past month or two. In most of the cases I know of, email isn't compromised, both password and pic for maple accounts were changed. I'm not sure if a PIC request is sent to the associated email or not. There's probably an exploit or cross-scripting to hijack PIC change, so if they know your password and login ID (which is not encrypted, thanks Nexon), you're screwed. Password cracking is probably done via hashing or maybe rainbow table just like last Christmas since the victims seem random. I already told my buddies to all change to a more secure password. PIC doesn't seem to offer any level of protection at all when it comes to account theft, password is your best defense sadly.

I haven't heard of more hackings, but probably 65% of my friends already quit for one reason or another.
I guess I'll start leaving all my accounts logged in 24/7 again. Now for the hard choice: leave a character logged in that works good with the new event (more exp) or leave a nib logged in so it doesn't look like it's worth dc'ing. >.< Are cash shop / MTS stable? Maybe I'll leave a main logged in and afk inside MTS all day.

A friend of mine in real life was also hacked last week. 12 of his characters were deleted and everything completely stripped. Still wondering how this is all possible and why I even bothered to give this another shot. Will Nexon ever find the errors of their ways and do something about this? Ugh....so disheartening.

Most likely not seeing as how Nexon America is one of the worst companies as far as how they actually run their games that I've ever seen. They're good with content and all that because they were lucky Maple was such a success on it's own allowing them to grow financially, but they don't know how to do anything else beyond milking for money.

Some people in JMS were getting a virus via the updated client before we were IP banned rom the game. (namely, many japanese players and aslemn.) There was alsop a huge problem with the autoban, which also could be associated with the fact that JMS later did everything in their power to remove hackers from the game, making every proxy and VPN program detectable by the hackshield and four IP bans in place. There's a good chance that every issue in the late patches with autobans and such, could be attributed to hackers.

I was hacked a couple of weeks ago, along with some people I know. Apparently the person who did the hacking linked us through msn. I don't think this has anything to do with it though, because this hacker has always been around and seems to have always been able to hack people when he felt like it.
