Avatar Spinoff Series Announced
#1
Source

Quote:Nickelodeon has just greenlit a new animated series from Avatar: the Last Airbender creators Michael DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko. According to the network's president, Brown Johnson, the series-- currently titled The Legend of Korra-- will be expanding the mythology of the Avatar franchise, setting it roughly 70 years after the original show's events with a whole new cast of characters.

"Mike and Bryan have imagined a compelling new story inspired by the Airbender mythology that they so brilliantly crafted when the TV series began," Johnson said. "This new avatar is not only a girl, but also hot-headed, independent and ready to take on the world."

The Legend of Korra

The Legend of Korra follows the adventures of a "passionate, rebellious and fearless" teenager from the Southern Water Tribe, a girl named Korra. Having already mastered three of the four elements (Earth, Water, and Fire), she seeks to master the final element of Air. Her travels eventually lead her to the metropolis of Republic City, an epicenter for the modern Avatar world. Although a thriving society of benders and non-benders alike, Republic City is also ridden with crime, including an anti-bending rebellion that is gaining momentum. Under the guidance of Aang's son, Tenzin, Korra begins her airbending training as she confronts the dangers ahead of her.

The Legend of Korra will be produced at Nickelodeon Animation Studios and is expected to begin airing sometime in 2011.

Seems kind of lame, honestly. But being set in the future it will surely tell about what happened to the characters after Avatar ended which might be interesting.

I'm torn.

cant wait to see Zuko's kids, what happened to his sister and father, what Sokka-Tsuki's kids look like, what became of Toph, the circus girl of the femme fetale trio, and even maybe if cabbage man had a kid.

The creators had to do something after that jackass ruined the first series with the Live Action crap. ;-;

I look forward to this: What the hell happened to air benders? I wanna see grown Aang, and what happened with his life. Depressing that he died at the age of 50 something. ;__; So many unanswered questions. So little time.

Eh? Aang was the only one left, so only his children (and children's children) would have a chance of being air benders.

A) Where do they go with that?
B) How did the first benders learn to bend if bending is genetic like that?

Eh?

While the first benders learned from various things in the Avatar world from that point on it seems to be a bloodline thing, such as the fact that Katara was one of the last water benders while everyone else in her water tribe (Sokka) weren't benders.

the first airbenders learned air bending from the air bison. too bad they all died...

Sounds like a good series. But seriously? In 70 years aang dies? I sad now =( He should be still alive! 80-ish isn't that old!

tenzin has to at least be in his 30's if not 40's. It looks like they may go with more mature themes this time around. Just pray they don't do a darker and edgier reboot Tongue

Aang should appear as an old man, not be dead already. Or at least kill him off in the 1st episode or something. There had better be a good reason why he's not there.

(The Last Airbender releases)
Aang dies from shame..

Aang channels his inner avatar and sacrifices himself to create a whole new generation of airbenders

Second this, the series should still have the lighthearted charm that brought me to this series.
Will be interesting to see how they tie up the first series' continuity, there's got to be traces of the main characters' impact on the universe.
( Come to think of it, Republic city seems to be a good symbolism of the main characters' dream of a united world that went downhill and it is this avatar's job to reunite the city and fix its problems

Sounds interesting, I just hope it mentions the past characters and explains what happened after the end of the first series like where was suko's mother and such.

He had to be dead in order for their to be a new avatar.

If he died in the first episode it'd take at least 10 years for a new avatar to replace him, but for all you know they could show his life and death as part of the first episodes introduction, and he will very likely be a recurring character the same way Roku was for him, since the previous Avatar guides the current incarnation.
