Should everyone get the Critical Ring?
#1
Now that Nexon is giving everyone a critical base of 5% and apparently it can be increased by ways other than SE or Thorns, is the critical ring bbetter for every job now or should warriors and mages still get the other rings?

(This bishop has a 45% critical base without SE or Thorns.)

Critical has always been the best ring for everyone even before these changes.

For an entire ONE Weapon Attack when you don't have SE. No thanks.

In solo mode, yes. But in terms of generality, long term planning, etc. critical is the way to go. It's the most versatile and beneficial one. May not be #1 in all situations, but for all classes, it's one of the best rings if not the best for general and all cases considered.

In terms of absolute damage whoring where you go for that 0.1 of a percent (1/1000 damage increase) yes the Cruel Ring wins over Lilin's 3rd ring, in some cases (no natural crits, very low skill %, but high base stats - eg. a DrK with 1000 str and 170% crusher might be better off with the Cruel Ring, by that fraction of a percent).

For all practical measures the Critical Ring is more useful, and if you have Lilin's 3rd, you shouldn't bother with the Cruel Ring.

Which of the bishops equips give critical rate? I can only think of ring and durability weapons.. Or are there more crit equips?!

Im thinking about getting the cruel ring aswell for my aran because of the 100% critical rate cap..

Arans only have 5+10x3% base crit after the revamp. Bishops get crit from a skill after the revamp.

Arans get 5 + 10 * 4% as of the latest patch.

Which of course would still be small enough to warrant use of the critical ring.

So get a critical ring if you want to plan ahead and even if you don't get it anyways. you wont always have SE... and it's nice to see those crits come up more often.

As of right now, not really. As of maplestory 2.0 (planning way ahead), yes.

Though really, chance at stun vs chance at insta kill... I know what I'd want.

I'm going to challenge this.
With the new system, magic attack assumes greater importance, so the extra 4 magic attack of the magic ring will directly affect total damage; eg an extra 2% for someone with 200-ish magic attack.

And with the new system all classes get a base critical.

In current regards, if base crit --> get a crit ring. (who knows if changes in MS2.0 will drastically change this)

However, maybe one of the more number cruncher people out there would care to contribute... would it then be better to go for the 10%/10% of a crit ring, or the matt of the magician's ring?

The best ring is the one that brings (Critical Chance%Wink closer to (Critical Damage%).

So if you have 5% to crit for 50% damage it's better to increase your chance to crit. If you have 45% to crit for 30% damage it's better yo increase your critical damage.

Most of the times your critical chance will be lower than your critical damage, so it's better to increase the chance more than damage (unless that would bring you over 100% chance).

As of today in KMST, Critical Ring's damage increase was removed. Only 10% critical chance was left.

Assuming they don't change Cruel Ring by tomorrow too, would getting it be a better option now? Considering most classes have 5% base Crit and a LOT of them have passive Crit increasing skills.

Now that everyone in GMS has been grinding noobs to lvl50 for the past 3 weeks and getting critical rings they go and nerf them. Nice.
At least I got the magical ring for my mage.

Yay, double thread same subject! Big Grin

Time for my double crosspost reply! Big Grin

Redone Calcs:

Normal Classes:
non-ring: 5% - 35% avgdmg = +1.75% avgdmg

crit-ring: 15% - 35% avgdmg = +5.25% avgdmg
cruel-ring: 10% - 45% avgdmg = +4.5% avgdmg
Difference: -0.75% avgdmg

crit-ring-Thorns: 35% - 45% avgdmg = +15.75% avgdmg
cruel-ring-Thorns: 30% -50% avgdmg = +15% avgdmg
Difference: -0.75% avgdmg

50% critical class (+10% dmg):
non-ring: 55% - 40% avgdmg = +22% avgdmg

crit-ring: 65% - 40% avgdmg = +36% avgdmg
cruel-ring: 60% - 50% avgdmg = +30% avgdmg
Difference: -6% avgdmg

crit-ring-SE: 80% -50% avgdmg = +40% avgdmg
cruel-ring-SE: 75% - 50% avgdmg = +37.5% avgdmg
Difference: -2.5% avgdmg

On an attack range of 3000~5000 the damage difference would be between:
0.75% = - 22.5~37.5 damage per crit hit (avg)
6.00% = - 180~300 damage per crit hit (avg)

New Conclusion:
- Critical Ring always wins. xD
- Cruel Ring is only better if you want higher knock-back criticals (without SE or Throrns), but not for more DPS.
