Which ring for a Dragon Knight?
#1
Hey guys:

One quick question: I just hit level 50, and basically its time for me to choose my ring. I was originally going for the Crit ring for my DK, but people in my guild/alliance are hounding me to go Cruel ring.

Which one's better? Frown

I'm guessing higher probability of landing a critical? :f6:

Will the Cruel ring do the same (except just have a slightly lower probability, but higher damage)?

I am not sure of the exact numbers. But I believe it was Stereo who said that with Crusher the critical becomes a 20% chance of a critical.

Would you mind digging it up?

Anyone else got any opinions on this?

I don't remember which thread I saw it in since there have been so many about the same subject, but I'll see if I can find it.

It might be in reference to the actual crit damage because it is applied before zerk. So a 10% crit damage becomes 20%.
Unless you are talking about actually landing a critical within the 3 hits of crusher happening on average 20% per crusher.

A cruel ring is technically better for training but by an unnoticeable 1 attk. The crit damage itself is negligible at best.
A crit ring is better for bossing when you have SE and the difference between the two becomes noticeable just because of the crit activation rate.

Looking forward passive crits for drks also lends itself to the crit ring being the better choice.

Anyways, after thinking about this hard enough, I went with the Crit ring....

.....Well at least pulling off Criticals every other Crusher made me a bit happy. Biggrin

Is it the
Cruel: 5% - 40% dmg, +3 watk
vs
Crit: 10% - 20% dmg, +2 watk

then safely make crit. It makes damage more stable, and is more efficient with other crits.

Cruel gives a boost of 20% damage.

Critical gives a boost of 10% damage.

with dark knights getting a decent critical rate in the new kmst balance patches the answer really cant be anything other then the crit ring

I would personally go with the cruel ring but that's only because the damage difference is massive with my stats/gear, considering even 1 extra att jacks my range up by a lot.

most drks should probably opt for the crit ring, but once you get to the point where cruel adds about 30k more per potential stab than crit for a mere 5% less chance... I'd have to be insane to pick crit over cruel :X

depends on the buff

with everything on (SE, apple, echo, mw 30) my individual non-crit crusher numbers are in the 70ks, with gelt closer to 80k, while the crits are around 130k and 140k respectively without the cruel ring

so that's around 300k+ on average per crusher, and considering i use skis it give it a better/faster chance to pull off crits than if i'd be using a slow spear. cruel ring would REALLY be more of a help for me than crit, since the damage difference is much higher for me than most people

When I say crusher I mean 1 stab of crusher.

Crusher: 170*2 = 340
Crusher w/ Se: (170+140)*2 = 620
Crusher w/ Se and crit ring: (170+140+10)*2 = 640
Crusher w/ Se and cruel ring: (170+140+20)*2 = 660

340 = 340
(620*.15+340*.85) = 382
(640*.25+340*.75) = 415
(660*.20+340*.80) = 404

415/404 = 1.027

I can't imagine 1 attack making up a 2.7% dps difference when you have SE (especially in an appled situation). Of course when you don't have SE the 1 attack makes the difference between the 2 rings, but that's all a matter of how much you value 1 attack in non-Se situations.

No, I mean is your range 88.2k, because that's what you need to get an extra 30k damage from a cruel ring vs. a crit ring. Obviously, it isn't. Cruel ring does not add any more damage than crit ring besides the 1 Attack buff. It makes your individual crits stronger by a barely noticeable amount, at the cost of losing 5% crit chance.

crusher hits 3 times

the difference between the two rings of each of my appled crusher numbers is very noticeable. i looked at how each ring would effect my dps and i'm getting the cruel ring
