Amazing things are possible
#1
All my life I've sort of looked at the little things as just that...little things. I never really saw much significance in a single penny, a single dollar, a single vote, a w/e. I've never really seen what, say, a penny saved could do for you. Never would I have thought that in America you could buy food for an average of $1 a day. Sure, it might not be an easy feat, but it is possible.

This man is working to turn a penny he found on the ground one day into a million dollars worth of donated food. So far he's turned that single penny into $575.99 which in total has bought $13,724.39 worth in food.
Penny Experiment

Additionally, he's been on a mission to prove to his sister you can buy food, here in America, for an average of $1 a day. Brand name, too. He's already completed a month, stretching his first $31 (with some extra money left over!) to nearly $600 worth of food, a lot of which has been donated to charities. I wonder what it will be like at the end of this month.
Eating Well On $1 A Day - Grocery Coupon Guide

I discovered his sites just a few days ago, and I have read just about everything that has been posted. I've been checking back daily, and I'm really impressed by it all. I hope you guys enjoy reading about it all.

The penny should be abolished. It's useless.
A dollar a day meals is pretty interesting though. I spend $1.90 on lunch at work most days. Which is like 1/4th of what I see everyone else buying.

I get a free meal at work everyday I work, and I rarely eat more than one meal a day, so if I took advantage of it, I could eat free 4/7 days a week (should be 5 but my boss hates me)

Exceedingly interesting thread and blogs, but I think it's important to note that this $1 a day mission isn't exactly possible for every person in the world. Billions don't have access to computers or Sunday papers for coupons, much less stores that would accept them in the first place. On top of that, the amount of time it takes each day to follow a plan like this in order to save every last penny via coupons and specials is beyond what many working families can put in to grocery shopping. Still, as with any publication of the extremes, the average consumer can learn something from this experiment. There's something to be said about the power of coupons, the power of bargain hunting, the power of Catalina's, etc., and so while we may not all be able to live on $1, we certainly can budget our food dollars better, without forsaking our health.

I feel bad, I spend like anywhere around 3-5 dollars per day at work if I'm scheduled there 9 hours (1 hour for lunch, so total is now 8 hours of work). :|
