I honestly can say I feel like I have wasted almost all of this whole school year maybe even most of my entire school life. Yes I don't really care anymore so to confirm most peoples thoughts I am a middle schooler. This whole year was probably the best social year of my life. I got a girlfriend, became really popular, and learned a little bit. Then again in my perspective you really don't learn anything new in middle school. Or at least not like how you learn important skills in high school or college. Honestly without trying to make my self seem like I think i'm the smartest person in the world i'd like to say that really the only thing i've ever learned from school is math. Everything else i've learned throughout experiencing life. I'm one of those kids who gets by in school with A's and B's without even trying. Its all common no-ledge in my opinion. Up until this afternoon I was loving it, It was a second life away from home.
This year was my 7th grade year and now I am moving on to 8th grade. Although, our school is a tad odd because they have mixed grade's (for example 1/2, 3/4, 5/6, 7,8). It's also not the biggest school so unless your one of those kids who is ignorant and unaware of whats going on you pretty much no everyone. For at least two thirds of the 8th graders I know who graduated today i've been in the same class with since 1/2. Since 1st grade I've worked to get to the social point I'm at. The 8th graders were at least one half of the population in the school that I know as friends instead of just seeing them around. Our school isn't really the best high school though. Its K-12. So as you'd expect a ton of people are going to different high schools. I was aware of this and wasn't to upset... Until I went on facebook and out of the 240 of my friends that are 8th graders that I know and see everyday at school. 217 posted on their wall saying that they are going to different schools. It's not just one different school its at least 6. I to plan on going to a different school. but... does that even matter at this point? Oh and yes I do have friends in the same grade as me. Tons actually. but instead of having 240+ of them I only have 50...
And don't even ask about those snot nosed 6th graders moving up...
I've entered this mode of sort of depression sort of logics. My current thought on it is that I'm a fool. I shouldn't have treated school in an academic way instead of a social way. Heck I probably won't even meet those people ever again in my life. Is it ok for me to suddenly blow off 7 years of friendships to say this? I really don't know and thats why I'm asking you. Is it right for me to not even care about those memories anymore and to be looking at it in a more logical way? I think theres a small possibility i'm just doing this in shock but for some reason it makes sense to me but doesn't feel right.
I didn't want to put this in the angry dome because honestly I'm not angry i'm more confused and sad. I also wanted real feed back not flame response feedback.
EDIT: on the bright side at least I have my girl friend...

Wow. I didn't realize how young you really are. lol
I would say you're just about normal. Everyone has their own views on school; some with hate toward their school, others with love to their school.
Don't worry so much about these early school years. They're really nothing.

Don't worry so much about these early school years. They're really nothing and they don't really reflect anything for colleges. I think only grade 8 ~ 12 is reflected on your college applications (correct me if I'm wrong).
yes I realize that but what I'm worried about is that I wasted 7 years because at least 2/3rds of everyone I've known since 1st grade has suddenly disappeared and I feel like I should have used my time differently.
also when I first played maplestory I was in 5th grade XD

Good God, if you think you're smart in Middle School, wait until High School =D.
Define friend.

well along with the acception of a few that are my best friends that I'll still completely stay in touch with. I'd say my judgement of friends is everyone that I've known to support me and my opinions/thoughts my whole life. Witch since I've never moved I'd say all the people I was talking about have done that. It's a real tight community in our school. We know everyone and everything about them.

Well, that's the problem. If you're in it for friends, you're going to end up being severely disappointed. It's best to focus your mind on academics rather than social aspects. You'll find yourself going farther as one who studies more than one who goofs off.

Me being so young and all academics are so easy and useless that I was able to focus on the social side of it all. Now me being at an age where all my friends have parted I'm wondering if I did the right thing or if I screwed up. Heck I don't even know if at such a young age I'd have another option. Im kind of depressed because i'm looking at it as if the social aspect is academics and now its all gone...
imagine it as if socializing is academics or "work". Well all your friends just disappeared. Ok well your friends are your "work". So all your years of work have suddenly disappeared.

Nah, ya did the right thing. Academics don't' really mean crap until High School. You still have one more year to goof off.

I guess claw has a point. I'm sort of over thinking it. It should be just goofing off. Not work...
I guess I'm just in shock of it all.

I really wouldn't look at it that way, but hey, it's your life.
If I were in your shoes, I would go for academics rather than minor acquaintances that'll disappear in a couple years. What you study will stay with you forever, whereas friends always come and go.

See thats what I prefer. But theres really nothing to learn in middle school. Especially since Arizona has such bad schools. Heck I learn more just by life experiances then we learn in school. I have studied only for finals and a few major tests this whole year and have a solid A in all classes. I'm able to skip 8th grade because I'm in all honors but I'm not ready to move on to high school yet...
I'm starting to let it all sink in now.
thanks everyone

Story of my young academic life. Everything was crazy easy until I took AP Calc BC senior year, which I completely bombed because I'd gotten into the habit of sleeping frequently in almost every class I'd taken since sophomore year. Don't do that. Stay interested, if you can. Suck it up and take it in as much as possible. If it feels like you aren't learning anything... well - you are and you aren't. If learning comes easy, good. Keep doing whatever you're doing. You're going to have to keep up with what you're learning now since most topics stack up information, especially math and science if you have any interest in those fields. When you start hitting high school, your freedom to tailor your classes to your tastes should expand, and even more in college. But you've got to learn stuff like Algebra first. I got fed a lot of crap about "Even if you don't need this math, it's good for you, like a brain pushup". But then I went into electrical engineering for my major, and I pull math from just about every math class I've ever taken. Maybe not the very obscure stuff, but if you really need to know something, you'll have learned it in so many different classes, you'll start seeing stuff like integrals in your sleep. The subject I use most frequently from Calculus 4- Laplace Transforms- really just boils down to having the right table in front of me and knowing what algebraic manipulations to make. I learned most of my algebra in 8th grade. It doesn't look important now, but you're learning a hell of a lot of useful stuff even in middle school. If not for job skills, for the real world. Knowing a thing or two about basic math, probability, history, and especially decent writing (Probably the most important job skill, ever.) will open the world to you, or at the very least, make the rest of your time in school substantially easier. Keep up the good work.
Quote:Friend and Facebook stuff
Times change, people grow older, mature at different rates, find new interests, and the list goes on. Not all of your friendships will last. Even if they all feel like bonds made of steel, people come and go. You live in the beautiful age of Facebook though. It's in your power to hang on to the relationships you really want to hang on to. It will take effort though, so choose wisely. I really don't see how you can have over 200 meaningful friendships, maybe that's just because I'm a more solitary person, but I'd say this might be the perfect chance to "spring clean" so to speak. And don't forget, if you're going to a new high school, you have that many more new connections waiting to be made. My friend circle seriously exploded in the 9th and 10th grade. My oldest friend, a guy I've hung out with since the 2nd grade heavily started hanging out with another guy in the 10th grade, and now we're like the 3 Musketeers. Some of the people I talked to every day, and had multiple classes with but never really hung out with except for at parties are people I've only seen once or twice in the two years since I've graduated. It's great talking to them, and I'll make the effort to see them when they're around, but I realize I really don't miss them to the point of distress. To boil it down to two points: don't panic, and seize the opportunities to make and strengthen friendships you're truly interested in.
Oh, and those snot-nosed 6th graders? I found most of them became remarkably tolerable by 10th and 11th grade. Hell, a few of them were quite awesome.

You're not blowing them off, you're continuing to go where you take yourself and where life takes you. Not all of them can come for your ride. My family likes to say "balance in all things" and for school, a proper balance has academics at the top of the food chain. Your education is for you, it's the foundation of what you do in life, how well you do it, and what you're able to take from life. This isn't to say you should shove your face in a textbook all day- experiences with your peers are another way to educate yourself. but you'll always have peers surrounding you at school, at work, in your activities. But you don't have until you're fifty to be prepared for the world. Learn now, learn lots, never stop. Be prepared for all life can offer you and all you want of life. If you don't learn now, you'll be playing catch-up for your entire life. People come and go, but your knowledge base and experiences are eternal. You'll adapt. Because that's what humans do. The only other option is failure, and that's not an option, therefore you will win.
Edit

If you're truly into learning and really have no faith in your school, hit up a library and read.

Thanks anthony.
That sort of cheered me up seeing someone wrote a wall of text about my issue. lol...
@face book stuff
It's kind of different when you've known them all since 1st grade. It makes you know everything about them. XD

One of my friends from kindergarten to 6th-ish grade lives two streets over. Used to hang our with him just as much as the guy I mentioned that I met in 2nd grade. I can still even remember his home phone number. Eventually though, we just sort of stopped. No falling out, no hard feelings, we just sort of stopped. *shrug* pomegranate happens. Now that I think about it, I spent a decent amount of time this year hanging out with someone I went to elementary, middle, and high school with and didn't talk to at all then. Helps that they lived in the same dorm. I guess I'm just trying to say that time marches on. When you look back, your friends from elementary and middle school will just be a sort of block of happy nostalgia. I'd be amazed if you actually had any serious regrets regarding any friends you might lose track of. Which is why there's no worthwhile reason to stress yourself about it.
And I love making text walls when I have stuff to say. It boosts my ego. Jajaja.

This is probably one of the more important friend-related pieces of information to retain if you don't retain anything else. A fair few of my friends and I (people who I could classify as best friends) just don't talk anymore. Hit them up for occasional conversations, but other than that, nothing.

All grade school (K-12) is terrible and pointless. You'll get through it.
