Serious question is serious.
I want to know if you guys and/or girls tends to keep things your exs tends to give you. Personally, every single one of my ex-girlfriends in the past had given me something, and I've kept all of it. I tend to look back at stuff like that and smile, and though not all relationships will turn out great or will end okay, I still smile at it. I also have pictures of myself and my exs, I don't know why, I just do. I don't really look at stuff like that unless I'm bored, but I just have it on my hdd.
I still wear a bracelet that one of my exs gave me. Another one made a storybook of how she met me, and how she fell in love with me, as well as how she'd want it to turn out (sorta like a romantic Disney story book, imagine that, but more realistic), and she did everything by paper and drawings, she made everything by herself. It was one of the cutest thing ever that I had received from a girl, and I treasured it always. I have it in my room near my desk, and I can always read the 'story' and smile.
What about you guys?

I've never had a true girlfriend, but if I did, I probably would keep the items, unless they're beyond ridiculous, just as keepsakes and memoires. There's no point in throwing memories out; good or bad.

I kept a puzzle my ex gave me of wolves.
i finally put it together the other day, glued and framed it.
i only like it for the picture, not because it was from him.
I've thrown everything else away from anyone else.
I rage when i break up. not pretty.

Of course I do man, I have a drawer where I keep all the stuff my exs gave me. Letters, postcards, posters, boxes decorated with stuff, photos, some little stuffed animals and a couple silly things. They always make me feel fuzzy inside when I'm down and I want to look back at good times. That doesn't happen too often though.
Either way, none of my gfs, not even my current one know that I keep this stuff, it's more like a personal treasure.

Only stuff that I truly would feel bad throwing out. Like I only kept a pretty pricey snowglobe from New York City and a necklace that I loved. Also a hand-knitted scarf that I just recently burned, actually.
I used to be like the aboveeee poster but I had to get rid of that. I move too much to keep any really sentimental stuff.

Of course, never let a current gf know that you kept your ex's stuff, bro, haha. Jeez, I'd feel really sorry for the guy who said "Yeah, it's something my ex gave me." to his current gf, and wonders why his gf is upset. :/

I keep everything. There was this one little note I got on Valentine's Day this year. It gives me a giant smile when I read it, even though it didn't turn out so well. :p

Same here, I keep all my stuff. My first ex, uhhh.. she got bored of me and didn't tell me squat. We tried to be friends after the break-up, didn't end so well. We never saw or spoke to each other again. Regardless, I still kept the bracelet she gave because it makes me smile when I think of the good times. Thinking of the bad things makes you feel worse, so yeah.
And even if things don't turn out well, always look at some sorta bright side, right?

Huh. My girl doesn't care. Only about the scarf (see above) because she convinced I still had a thing for that ex. But none of the other stuff mattered. :p

like Shi, ive never had a girlfriend... nor really has anyone ever given me much of anything outside of family.
though, i think...
If someone were to give me something, and theres either a lot of thought that had gone into it, or the person was just someone really special/important to me, id keep it. like, it'd be something to look back at and think of some good memories, something to cling to in the past that isnt bad.

For the most part, yes. Anything I can think of, I've kept, EXCEPT a shoebox of notes from my first girlfriend, and some little boxes she made. I burnt that with a friend because it felt good at the time, but I kind of regretted it a few months later when her and I started talking again. But these days, I don't regret it.

Speaking of which, I did have a picture of one of my exs for a while, then after we broke up, I guess I was really mad at her for not being honest with me. I was at a local gas station, and I was done pumpin' some gasoline for my car. I reached for my wallet, about to get my debit card, then I glanced at the picture of my ex. Of course, this was a week or maybe a couple days after the break-up, and I guess I was really depressive and pissed-off at the time, so I ripped her picture in half and threw it away. :/
Not sure if I regret that or not, to be honest. But that was the only thing I've thrown away, iirc. I've kept everything else...

You are a very wise person.
I kept mine, forgot about it, and threw it out when I was cleaning one day since I'm in a new relationship. I like to keep my fair share of sentimental stuff but gifts from past relationships, especially ones that are personalized and meant something special, just seem like baggage to me. The good ol' times I can remember. I don't need something to remind me. And I sure as hell don't bring it with me when I move around.
Now, things that can be useful are another thing. Too bad I never got anything like that.

We're both Vietnamese people, we tend to be really picky to start off with anyways. /justkidding
But yeah, most of the stuff I've already stated in this thread are all common sense, I would like to think, but you know what they always say, "Common sense is not common". I asked a girl I know if she still kept the stuff her exs gave her, she said she did. To my surprise, she said she did. I was always under the impression that more girls tends to throw away stuff from their past relationships more than guys, but I'm not sure. Hmm.

I still have a few things hiding in my desk drawer. I tried to throw them away when I moved last year but I couldn't bring myself to do it.

I have a cabinet on my PC desk with a lock. Inside of it is everything my recent ex gave me. It's hidden away to prevent sob fests.

Aww... Mark.. ;______; Recent ex.. I can guess. Sorry, man. :/
PS: Oh, right. The other stuff I threw away would be my ex's nudes, goddamn. I did that because I had pride and wanted to do the right thing, but sometimes, those animalistic instincts just screams "OH MY GOD, WHY DID I DO THAT?" ;-;

I tend to hold onto everything until I realize that being upset and having that stuff as a constant reminder doesn't help the process of moving on.

Ahah. Of course! ;D
Hm. I remember learning in sociology that men are more romantic and tend to fall in love quicker than women. I suppose that correlates with the reason behind your thoughts?
I eventually get emotionally detached from things, hence their existence becomes meaningless and throwing them away isn't a big deal. If I ever found out that my ex kept all the stuff I gave him, I'd tell him to throw them out. F3. Some of my friends who are girls actually keep the things they've received though, I believe, so it's not as uncommon as you think. My sister's 24 and I think she still has pictures of her and her ex(es).
