I figured I'd write a review on it after seeing it in my town (at 10:30 PM EST yesterday, it is now 2:16 AM EST today).
As I sat down right next to my friends, I slowly reach for the small bucket of popcorn, wondering to myself "Is this movie good? I read reviews about it, and supposedly, it's terrible". As I watch the opening scenes, I noticed Walt Disney came on, I suddenly cringed and thought "Oh, not another corny Disney movie. Fuck this". I slowly paid attention to the background, story, and visual elements within the movie.
My first reactions were something along the lines of "Aladdin??!?! y/n", but as I continued watching the action and plot-twists, I noticed that it was a very decent movie. Of course, keep in mind that I have never ever played any Prince of Persia games, so I'm not going to be biased at all and must say that the movie is crap because the game is better, or vice-versa. I just took it in as just another movie.
After watching the entire thing, here's what I have to think about it. Most videogames2movies tends to suck balls, Mortal Kombat was good, as in, the first Mortal Kombat movie. Everything after sucked balls. Street Fighter was okay. Dead or Alive was fucking terrible, despite me being a major Hitomi and Kasumi fanboy, the movie just plain sucked donkey balls.
But unlike those ones listed above, I watched this movie without any experience of the game series. I came in being curious, I went out as an intrigued and satisfied man. The visual effects were stunning and very interesting, better than most of the movies I've seen. The plot and storyline was great, and wasn't as corny at all. The only thing I did not like was the ending of the movie, and I shall not spoil it to any of you. I thought it was very Disney, but not so Disney that it was the typical "and the two finally lived happily forever and ever and ever and ever. FIN." kinda thing.
The action was very compelling, I kept on wondering what was going to happen next when the prince gets into fight-scenes. Supposely, Jake did his own stunts, and that's rather impressive, imo. Some of the action and lines was too perfect to be true, such as how he 'knows' everything after thinking about it for a minute on-screen. I just thought that was kinda shit, but meh.
Overall, I give this movie a "B" rating. It wasn't terrible at all, despite what most reviews claims it to be. The ones I've read just flat-out says it's terrible or something. I suggest those who have yet to play the games, to watch it. And those who did play the games, well, it's your option. Enjoy!
