I'll say this once, I'll say it again. I'm dumb at computers. So please if you say something complicated it might sound like magic to me. Just keep that in mind when responding.
So I use a Vista labtop. It's an "hp" labtop which I assume stands for Huelard Packard. I checked, and it's 32 bit. I got this labtop November of 2007.
I want to downgrade to Windows XP so I can Zak without having to alt tab, and HT without dcing before the body summons. It pisses me off badly. I feel cheated. I heard from someone in my guild that it's possible to downgrade, but as I'm stupid when it comes to computers, I don't know how.
If you know how please post it, in a simple manner I can understand.

I tried doing this as well, but I failed because HP didn't release XP drivers for my model. =/
First of all, go check to see, on the HP website, whether or not they have the drivers for your laptop's model.

To "downgrade", there is no feature that lets you do that. You'll have to completely reformat and install XP (possibly slip-streamed version to include HP drivers)

How do I know what model I have?

Flip your laptop over, there are a bunch stickers. There should be a mention of model number somewhere there.

I wouldn't. You're better off with 7.

This.
Until Nexon releases Windows Vista/7 compatible clients for every version of Maple, XP is still the best way to go. =/

I mean in general but maple's problems in 7 are pretty easy to remedy. They're going to make a maple client for 7 anyway so you're just better off just getting 7.

It's not "easy to remedy" when you're at Horntail and having to constantly change your graphics settings every few minutes just to stay connected to the game. Once the black flashes start, you're screwed. lol This is why most people either dual-boot Windows 7 and XP or they have a seperate computer that runs on XP for bossing purposes.

Your situation doesn't really mean everyone with the same operating system is the same as you...
Besides, there can be problems with maple on XP still.

Yes, they do. It's a visual basic/client incompatability issue that everyone with Windows Vista and Windows 7 has. Everyone that I know that has Windows Vista or 7 has come across it at some point when playing Maple. It's a commonly known thing in Japan and throughout every GMS forum that I've been to. If you're on 7 and haven't come across this even ONCE, you're one lucky S.O.B, that's all I have to say.

Like i said though, easily remedy-able by just changing graphics or alt tabbing. To say that the bug exists in every operating system PERIOD is one thing, to say that no workaround exists is another. People have gotten through HT and zak with 7 and vista. Making this kind of choice based on 1 (albeit major) bug that will likely be fixed eventually either with the old MS or MS2 or both is very nearsighted.

Of course people have done it. I've done it, countless times, but you call that easily remedied? Within the few seconds it takes to change your graphics settings or to minimize and maximize Maple, Horntail could hit you twice and kill you, like what happened to me at Horntail (which got me kicked out of the group... lol). And that's not even a fix. That's just a high annoyance and only gets in the way of the gaming experience and hinders the overall group's ability. Like I said, until the Vista and 7 compatible clients that Nexon Korea promised are released, Windows Vista and 7 aren't recommended for bossing purposes. Using Vista and 7 for regular game play like running around, doing quests and grinding has no real problem. It's only at bosses when the real graphics errors set in.

That's a remedy that only works for one of the errors, glitches. There are some, for example mine, just quits maple, no error messages, nothing.

This game is NOT WORTH BASING THIS KIND OF DECISION ON, dude. 7 is clearly better than XP in every way except for minor annoyances when playing this game. An OS is more than just what you can get out of maple with it.
As for what you actually said, yeah i do call that easily remedied. Would you rather never HT or zak? We're arguing like we have a choice in what we have to do to not D/C.

I get this sometimes as well. I still have yet to find the cause of it. In JapanMS, they have this weird visual glitch when you travel around towns, if you don't change your graphics settings every time you travel to a different area of the Maple World, you'll get black flashes and will eventually crash, with no errors or anything. I think Nexon Korea released a Vista/7 compatible client a while ago for KMS, but we've yet to see it for any other version. Here's hoping, huh?
@above : Okay, I get it. Obviously I have no idea what I'm talking about, huh? >_> (I'm not meaning it in that way [@below])

So Takebacker, since you're being so vocal about this, what are the tangible benefits of switching to 7 that he should care about?
Because currently it looks like 1 to 0 in favor of XP.
