LOL? MapleStory PVP would be EXTREMELY unbalanced. Are they really going to try it? I know for one that Vipers will kick everyone's asses due to invulnerability frames, unless this PVP is completely different than normal PVP.

This NPC also appears in the Yuyuan Garden PVP area, not sure how it works there though.

The biggest problem with a direct PVP system is the delay players have between each other due to the path client-server-client.

Most likely, you would only be able to use normal attacks, and there will be a forced damage dealt variable, that would have some sort of formula that would vary the damage slightly.

If you can only use regular attacks, warriors would easily defeat any other class.
My current damage range, no buffs or skills, is 3484-6224 (and that's pitifully low for a warrior my level). That means if we fight with no buffs or skills, I can easily one-hit or at most two-hit just about any non-warrior in the game. Even if buffs such as Magic Guard were allowed, I'd still kill them long before they could make a dent in my 11k HP.
OTOH, if skills were allowed, many mages and ranged could take me down before I got close enough to hit them.

Edit: Actually, ignore that. Warriors' low accuracy would mean they can't even hit most other players... but IF I could land just one hit...

PvP in Maple would have to be under highly artificial conditions, a bit like Balrog PQ - restricted skills, restricted stats, probably restricted potion use as well... All in all, it wouldn't be "my Maple character" vs "your Maple character" but rather "a character assigned to me" vs "a character assinged to you" in some contrived game vaguely resembling Maple.

Dividing all damage by 50 or some crap would work just fine for Pvp, although Buccaneers would be hard as hell.

But isn't this character all ready in TMS/CMS? Honestly I can't remember, but I know one version have a PvP system that (requires nx) involves players doing mini games, killing monsters, and doing jump quest, etc etc.

Uh.. we all know NLs+Corsairs (NLs have to use SP+booster, Corsairs have to set up ship, booster, etc) and anything else with AoE wins this sh`it if this is implemented the way I think it will be implemented.

I'm pretty sure they'll revise it under a damage cap formula, skill % reductions, and other things to reduce and balance the PvP.
Some examples:
Base 100% skill damage for all skills.
Skills surpassing 200% would get a 10% per every 100% of doubled damage. (ie. 200% = 110%)
A damage cap of about 1000 regardless of move. (ie. Snipe, Hammer)
Magic Guard and Meso Guard work as they do.
Drain skills work, although someone might object this.

Maple can't have PvP as a player fighting a player. It has to be some stupid thing like whoever gets the most exp out of a room of monsters, but then mages autowin. It's kinda dumb, because no matter which way you pick, somebodys got the advantage.

The way the Chinese PvP (which that NPC is from) works, is you attack a monster linked to your opponent's HP.

Ooh, this'll bring in a lot of players. My friend refuses to join because Maplestory doesn't have PvP.

I have always found the idea of a PVP in MS as a great and necessary one. I've always imagined it this way, player A and player B have an argument, so then player A proposes a Duel, right click's on player B and invites him to a PVP fight (just like inviting someone to a party). Then, once player B accepts, they both are moved to the PVP arena entrance, which they enter by talking to the NPC once they both are ready. In this Arena not all skills would work obviously, arrows and stars wouldn't autofollow their target like they do with monsters, but follow a straight trajectory, stats like accuracy and evasion would be reduced (maybe even defense and magic but IDK if it's really necessary for those) and effects caused by skills like stunning, slow, freeze and burning would be disabled.

Some of the skills that'd require to be blocked are:

For warriors skills like Hyper Body, Power Guard, Threaten (the new one)
For Archers Hurricane, Snipe, and maybe Sharp eyes? IDK about that one (I'm not sure about Hurrricane but its tremendous speed might make it a bit unfair)
For Magicians Teleport, Meteor shoer, blizzard, genesis, Seal, Slow
For thielves Flash Jump, Dark Sight, Shadow Meso, Shadow web, Meso guard, Meso Explosion.
and for pirates I can't think of any skill that should be blocked.

On top of all this Invincibility frames should be reduced or totally disabled in this arena and Damage should be reduced to a set % of the regular one (10% maybe).

They could implement all of this or just simply create an arena where you fight throwing snow balls at each other just like the Christmass event lol. These are some of the things I can think of right now that would be necessary for a good PVP. Sounds hard but definitely possible.

They can just Flash Jump away (NLs, Hermits, and NWs need only apply!). Don't forget that Thieves have really high avoid . . .

This. I still don't know why they haven't worked this out yet. It's noticeable if you want to "race" someone in Maplestory. I always find it funny when people in party quests argue over who got on a specific box first.
"I came here first!"
"No, are you blind? I was here. You jumped on it as soon as I got to it."
"Nuh uh, get the fak off noob! I have pro level 193 Night Lord, I KS you if you don't get off!"
"BUT I GOT HERE FIRST~!"

Shut up. You both got there first. But the MS delay is stupid, and while your screen showed your opponent lagging behind you by a few seconds, their screen showed the opposite.

Or if you're a class that uses ice skills to freeze a fast monster. When someone else comes onto the map, the monsters won't freeze where you want them to. They'll slide around like ice cubes on ice, in order to adjust to the spot the OTHER PERSON is supposed to be seeing them at.

So if direct PVP is implemented, how the hell can melee classes even hit anything if their screen doesn't accurately show them where their opponent is? On their screen, the Night Lord is in range of their sword, but on the Night Lord's screen, the Warrior is still walking up to him. What the hell happens now? The Night Lord Flash jumps away, but at the same time the Warrior hits attack. On the Warrior's screen, he hit the Night Lord. On the Night Lord's screen, he escaped the Warrior's sword without getting hit.

Lag sucks.

Flash jumped away, while keeping up with triple throw... You got a bit closer? I have haste. Got me? Good luck hitting with my avoid, or if shadow shifter kicks in. This thing will have to work some other way D:

HOWEVER, same class battles can be INTERESTING. Imagine a FJ duel, while using TT on the exact instant you need to, or the likes. OR team based duels. Like 6 VS 6, just like that. Add some kind of damage reduction, and you are set. And for people saying archmages would DESTROY a team, if the damage gets set to make you survive a hit, the mage gets TOTALLY vulnerable. Also, pots need to be adjusted... It can work out, but needs a LOT of tweaks.

Also, special player - player connection then, like a lobby or something.
