Creating a MMO..
#1
Me and a few people (key word: few) are taking on a 3d MMO project. Our programmer is busy, and he's in Austria, which puts us at a time difference (although he knows his shi't: better then any of you would and will ever know; not general knowledge, but knowledge specific to our topic). But anyways, I can't really give anything away for info, there isn't a bunch of info we're willing to let out to the mass public. What we do need, is team members who will get briefed later on. What we need:
  • Programmers (C++ for engine!)
  • Modelers
  • Texturists (Not really a word, but people who make textures, goes hand in hand with modeling)
  • SFX, 3d Sound, BGM, (all sorts of sound stuff)
  • Development Board: Concept Art, Storyboard (we have a LOT already made as you might know if you join), etc.
  • Site and BBS Staff (No forum; we're goin' BBS), which includes coders, and people who can make themes and buttons and stuff

That covers most of the positions we need, and we have unlimited seats open for any of them (unless you all crowd into one position, haha).
So.
Yeah.

Is this a .hack clone? (Because actually making a .hack mmo would get you sued.)

Uh--

Hmmm.

I don't know if I should step forward as a bgm composer... how professional are we talking here?

I honestly have no idea. However good we can do it; it can be unprofessional, but it needs to not be like, corny.

I guess then I won't hold back if you're still in the thinking process. What kind of general style are you looking for?

General fantasy-ish rpg-ish kind of thing. It can range from whimsical to srs depending on the field.

Well then I'm your guy, that's all I feel like writing for Tongue Do you have some sort of website or network where we can hold conferences, or msn/yahoo/etc?

I'm up for any theorycrafting that might be necessary.

None of the positions suits my abilities since I can't program languages unlike most of the IT/CS majors on SouthPerry. However, I will say that you guys have my full support. I'm looking forward to seeing the results! Keep me informed!

Mega-bump, but. We're restarting this grandstand now that Damian (Our head programmer) is back in action: he's modeling things now, and i'm going to be starting modeling soon shortly, so concept art is needed out the ass.

Anyone have any ideas on how we all could stay in contact?

use an IM program, or if possible, an iRC channel.
if willing, cell phones via texting (if applicable and wouldnt cost the persons involved a fortune) are an option, if not calling one another. im sure there are some programs out there to hold chat conferences, but id say getting an IM program (that can support webcams) would be your best bet, even if you have to download it just for the project.

We have an IRC, but I was hoping for something a little more permanent. Eh. I'll see if I can get a BBS running.

Though this may vary depending on where you live, the best thing is to meet up with eachother (irl) at least once a week. That way, things will actually happen and not just be some a game that never happened.

Physically impossible. I'm in Connecticut, Damian is in AUSTRIA, and I doubt any of you willing people are near each other or me.

We have an IRC in #ProjectR:0, by the way. Same network as southperry, irc.gamesurge.net .

I currently have setup a BBS using an application only system. It'll keep anybody who shouldn't know about this projecct. Further discussions are for here only.
