How long does it take for an item to be sent to a character? And if the item is sent to the character while it's offline does it screw it up?

I can't pinpoint an exact number, I've seen a range from 8-24 hours. No, sending an item to an offline character does not screw it up.

I recently sent something to another character on a different account and it clocked exactly 12 hours to get the item, if that helps to get an idea of estimated time.
