I was looking for an alternative to the bloatware that iTunes for Windows has become when I stumbled upon the Zune 4.0 Software
Holy hell the interface is BEAUTIFUL. And man is it fast, itunes lags in comparison.
It automatically updates the meta-tags for your music, awesome. Not perfect, but damn close.
The Splash screen.
The miniplayer stays in the foreground of everything, it's small enough to not interrupt anything I do.
tl;dr most amazing piece of software I've used in a long time.

it is very pretty, but most people are tied down by their iPods/iPhones.

I have an iPod Touch atm, so I'll still probably use iTunes when I need to sync, but once Windows Phone 7 comes out, I'm selling it. Integrated Zune player and Xbox Live integration sold it for me.

Get foobar2000.
Enjoy it for its simple UI and light memory usage, never caring for other outward appearances.

What OS do you have, Roxas? I have Win7 and I can't get Microsoft's software to install to save my fucking life.

I've been using Zune's software for about a year now. I love it. Can't stand iPod's, sucks shit. It shows album art, it updates it as well. It loads really fast when I want it to, and I can synchro it to my Zune HD with ease.

Windows 7 Home Premium here.
Right click, change the compatibility to Windows Vista SP2. Worked for me.

yayfor64bit.
Seriously, 50% of the 64-bit programs I install won't work - including Zune now.
Yes, I got 64-bit. 32-bit install just tells me to get the 64-bit one. (Windows 7)

What error does it give you, and have you tried the above steps?

Go to the things to try page, follow the steps and try again, or google the error code if that doesn't work.
Not really alot of experience with 64bit lol.

I tried using it before. Overall, I ended up uninstalling it for various reasons:
- Fast? Maybe if you compare it with iTunes, but technically, something like WMP is faster. The Zune software starts up slow.
- The ("pretty") UI was actually the first thing that caught my eye. The UI may look "pretty", that's that's pretty much it. The Zune/WP7 interface sucks in terms of "design" (organization, etc.).
- It's lacking in functionality. This is probably a result of how I use iTunes as an all-round music software though.

WMP is really cluttered, I can't find anything in it. I only use it to play movies. The design sucks? What? The utter simplicity and functionality of it is actually stunning. I mastered the whole program in less than 10 minutes of clicking. And if you can appreciate Typography, the design is stunning, like nothing seen before. Every review has pretty much enforced the point of it being an all-around brilliant design.
Slow, I can't really argue, since my computer is pretty high-end as I see it. The program starts instantly for me.
Organization is fine, you can even shuffle the columns in the collection view (2nd SS). And shift views, Album, Songs, Genres, etc. What more do you want? Search is there too.
Lacking in functionality? It's a music player, it has a built in music store and plays music. What more do you want? I can't think of a feature iTunes has that Zune 4.2 doesn't.
Also, Zune Pass.
iTunes's prices are hugely inflated compared to Zune Pass's. And it allows you to share songs between friends.
but lol, who buys music anyway.

I've used Zune ever since I started putting music on my Zune 30 player. Completely outdid Winamp IMO, and I've never touched iTunes after I installed it a long time ago, and never re-installed it again. I love Zune's organization and style, and it doesn't ever really get in the way. Works flawlessly with my Zune HD as well.

No love for Winamp? It can sync iPod touches and I've been meaning to use only Winamp once I got this new computer, but I've been too lazy to SharePod my songs over or download a music player at all. I'm done with iTunes.
