Has anyone else done something like this? I decided to give it up for 4 weeks, or until the end of this semester. This sucks because I just got that larvitar egg, and BC2...

But, I should be able to get A's in all my classes, because of the extra time.

Tips?

Lock them in a closet and put a sign saying "Straight As or Tyranitar?" on the door.

TYRANITAR! HELL YEAH!

But seriously, locking them up should help. Just think of how much better life will be if you just get through without playing.

Lock it, and have someone else take care of the key. Or if you're like me, lock something more than once. Like put it inside a small chest, then lock that. Put that chest inside a small cabinet, lock that too, etc. Also, put the keys somewhere that you know would be overly tedious and complicated for you to get. That's usually how I force myself to focus.

....I almost wish I didn't ask, but do you do this with anime? Frequently?

Oh dear Heavens, no. I don't have an obsession with anime, as much as it looks like to be on the forums, I have more of a problem with alcohol, coffee, and video games. I only watch anime whenever I get bored or if it's the weekends, and even then, that's like 2 hours on weekends. When I meant 'lock', I was referring to my video games, haha.

I wouldn't be able to lock-down on my anime anyways. I have a good couple hundreds and hundreds of anime DVDs (self-burned) in my room, and there's just way too much to even attempt. Most stuff, I haven't even gotten the chance to watch yet either. If there's anything I really need to lock down on, it's my PSP and the games for that console, I get hooked on RPGs rather easily. As for booze, I used to drink only on weekends, but now I drink at night late on Thursdays too.

If you have the self control to do it, you could try using video games as a reward for accomplishing your study goals. The library or a local coffee shop is also a great place to go study if the computer is too big of a distraction.

I've already given my DS to my brother.

I just don't know how to not play BC2... I think I'll just use another computer that can't even play it...

Oh, and I won't be able to join the Dragon Nesters either.

Going off from what I heard in the background:

Tell siblings to play with games when available. Have them bug the f'uck out of you when you even reach for the controller.

Just learn some self-restraint. Leave it out and don't touch it. If you need to lock something away to contain yourself than you need to re-work yourself.

Easier said than done.

Self-restraint is a very touchy subject for me to even discuss about, because everyone's willpower is different. But let's compare this to smoking and drinking, a lot of people can say "I can quit easily!". The next day:

"Eh. One smoke/drink won't hurt. Maybe tomorrow."

And it goes on and on, because some people can make it look easy, and then there are others who has to resort to more drastic means of restraining themselves. I don't think there's a right answer, because everybody is different, really. I just prefer to lock my stuff since I know myself way better than my own family or my friends.

The thing is, completely depriving yourself of something only causes unnecessary anguish and is just as distracting as if you have it out. If you have access to it and force yourself to do your work instead, you'll learn good habits and they will carry with you through life. You aren't changing your habits if you hide what you need, because as soon as it's over you'll be back to exactly where you were in the first place.

Why not play in moderation (or less than what you usually do) instead of locking it away completely?

Do something else in your spare time. I'd recommend sports. They're fun, increase your grades, and keep you fit.

I'm currently not playing any video games except for pad stepmania. It is definitly one less distraction when it comes to school work.

And yeah, I agree with sports. Or just any form of exercise. I go to the gym + do yoga + play stepmania (lol that's a video game, but it's alright) + go biking a bit.

Lock in a cabinet. take key and place in ziplock full of water. Place ziplock in freezer to freeze. Now you need to spend 6 hours thawing it out to play again.
