Plus some rape. Did we mention how much rape is in this? Could you not tell by the audio we added with the porn-style "ooohs" and squeals? How about a few blurred out covers? Seriously. Don't play this. It isn't good for you. You'll just get some dandy sexual escapism.

There was nothing wrong with the presentation. The news is always dumbed down. Especially when they talk about soil / field conservation, genetics, or bioengineering. If you can admit that Japan will always be Japan then you can easily accept the fact that the news on major channels will always be news. I personally find it annoying when kids try to defend games like the MW2 airport scene by saying that they're used to it. Just because you're accustomed to it doesn't change the fact that it's right or wrong. It's not an issue about whether or not you find something offensive but the implications it can have on younger generations. Most people don't consider how sensitive certain parents are to their child's growth. At a young age every action is over-translated by parents from first steps to first words. The only reason why soccer-moms are scared is because they don't want their new-born on the way possibly having the word "rape" as the first-word their children states when they learn how to talk. It's not like we primarily concern ourselves about how today's youth is emotional adjusted or learn how to distinguish between right or wrong. But the majority of people who do watch those channels are concerned and that's the demographic that the news focuses on.

I really like those British people. Almost everyone who plays those knows the difference between games and RL. One in 100 million players who go psycho does NOT constitute a problem.

It's not like I disagree that this industry could probably use some regulation in Japan. I totally sympathize with the pissed off Women's Rights groups. Sure they presented it fine. I don't think there was any need to present it to the public at large on CNN, not that I care enough to stop them. I just get a kick out of news organizations that present sexual stories in this style. South Park actually hit on the subject pretty well in the season opener.

And like you said, I can easily accept that this is the state of news. I mean, when I see something titled "Rapelay" I'm all over seeing what it's about. They've got my attention. I find it funny though. That's an incredibly counterproductive way to prevent people from knowing about it.

Another example I saw recently was an article about porn addiction in teens - which linked directly to 3 youtube-style porn sites. And local news has been doing this for years. "Tonight at 11: SHOCK! SCANDAL! SEX!" And it's just some story about a strip club in a tiff with a landlord or local neighborhood. Relatively innocuous in actuality. An unimportant story on a slow news day. Or "Tonight at 11: the footage we couldn't show you from X story you just saw"

While pointing out his inconsistency might at first glance seem important, it does nothing to prove that his argument is wrong. If his argument is indeed wrong, it should fall on its own grounds without having to attack the other person at all. Try coming up with a better argument next time - one that's more on topic and less personal.

But either way, it's not "Poisoning the well" even if it's to the person. Simply pointing out the contradictions in a person's statement, is not considered as "attacking the person" It only means either the person's first statement is wrong, or the 2nd statement or both.

1. Internet is a privilege not a right.
2. China's censorship mostly blocks pornography, contrary to western media.
3. The minor things China blocks are things that will harm the stability of the country and they are things the Chinese doesn't want to see anyways.

Just wanted to comment that I agree with the OP. I strongly sympathize with Women's Rights groups and believe that censorship of such games should exist (hell, virtual rape programs are disgusting regardless), but the presentation was off. Not that anything was done poorly in presenting the games or whatnot, or even having the story presented on CNN, but the journalist heavily emphasized any comments that blasted the game industry for creating the product or the government for failing to reply. Good journalism is supposed to be objective (when talking about a supposed objective source like CNN), but when you present the story with such tones the effect can be very persuasive.
