good way to listen in to a phone conversation

WEll, my mom is being secretive and talking to my best friends mom. It was supposed to be to reschedule a sleepover, but from what i can tell, there is a lot more going on than that.. talking about switching schools and alot more.

I wanna listen in. But when my mom doesnt want to be heard, she makes the call only when 1 phone is dead, in her room, door locked, and phone volume on low.

how can i listen in in these situations? cant use the other handset because its dead. she talks to soft to hear through the door without any amplification system (and more than the glass to the door trick). any ideas?

And there is no way that i know of to listen to a phone conversation without another phone on the same line

Maybe an inexpensive bug made out of materials found in the home if anybody is savy like that

some kind of hack to wire a phones battery to a power source other than the charger so i can still listen in while it chargeS?

On topic: Stick a hidden microphone or something in her room. Maybe hide a camera and leave it on record.

hidden camera might be a bad idea, well anything you have to go through it AFTERWARDS. You might end up with some unwanted footage. Best way is to spend $10, get a phone that doesn't need batteries, plug it into a separate phone jack (most houses have more than 1). and listen in.

When we had dial up internet, me and my sister would attempt to connect to the internet while my mother was on the phone. We could hear her conversation a little
