How to fix pokemon

I think the best way to fix pokemon would be to eliminate HM's. Make them TM's or make them level up abilities. I just hate having HM mules...

Make HMs USEABLE in battle. Cut is a piece of pomegranate. Give it 90 power and Bug type and I'll use it on every bug pokemon and more.

Either make HMs good, and combine ones that should be the same (cut, rocksmash, strength, rock climb; surf, whirlpool, waterfall) I mean seriously. I can SMASH ROCKS INTO NON EXISTENCE, BUT I CANT PUSH THEM, BREAK A TWIG, OR CLIMB A LITTLE? WTP

Either that, or give us 2 extra spaces for non battle pokes (HM slaves or friendship bonding pokes)

Waterfall and Surf are two awesome moves to use in battle. One's physical, the other's special. I don't want to see them combined. :[

I do, cuz i dont need 2 water type moves on 1 poke, and i would rather have less HM mules, or at least a HM mule with at least 1 good move...

Why would you put both on one attacker? Surf on a Gyarados will do pomegranate damage, but Waterfall is beast. I like having an easy-to-get water attack that kicks ass, regardless of whether my water pokemon of choice is a special or physical attacker.

Combine Cut, Strength, and Rock Smash into one move; Fly; Surf and Whirlpool into one; Waterfall; Rock Climb. Five HMs right there. Buff the stats a bit and you could easily use two or more on attackers. Something's wrong if you're not using Surf or Waterfall on your in-game team anyway.

Make HM's passive abilities you give to Poke's, that don't go into their movesets, so you can just fly/cut/surf/strength wherever/whenever you want, without needing to rape a Poke's moveset. ):
Or just make them Key items, like PokeFlute/waterbottle for berries.
Either way, make it so my Poke's moveset isn't ruined by having Cut, without needing to fill up my party with mules. D:

rock climb into the rock group. seriously.. If you can push rocks and smash them, youre strong enough to climb a 45 degree slope.

This but make it a max of 2 passive abilities per poke. This way you don't just get a mew with a decent moveset to take in all of the HMs as passive abilities.

Or make it so Poke's that SHOULD know the HM(IE winged/flying types with Fly, fish/aquatic types with water HMs like sure/waterfall) have it as a natural ability. If the Poke was caught wild, it'd have the ability already, if you bred it(or evolved it from a Poke that can't do it, like Charmeleon > Charizard learning how to fly) it'd learn how to do it eventually(no bird can know how to fly right after hatching and such), like at 20 or something.
But yeah, limit it to 2 abilities per Poke.

I like Rob's idea of inate, natural abilities. Were we warped into the anime, a Steelix wouldn't need to know cut to plow down a forest: He's huge, even a baby could pull that off. Tends towards a sandbox-like game though, and that could be tricky with the current leveling system.

I don't want to see any HMs merged. Just make them all decent moves (not necessarily competitively viable, but not completely useless like Defog). I like the passive ability idea; you'd still be restricted by badges.
