good psp games?
#1
I'm planning on getting a PSP GO and was wondering two things.
Does the PSP GO play the same games the PSP plays?
Also what are some good games? Big Grin

Don't get the Go; it sucks. The controls aren't changed and there's no dual analog. The screen is smaller. There's no UMD and you're forced to download EVERYTHING over the internet, which is, in my opinion, a hell of a lot more of a hassle than carrying around those obnoxious discs. Sure, it looks slick with the slide-up screen, but it's $100 more expensive than the previous model with practically no improvements.

Before the Monster Hunter obsessives and jRPG faggots take over the thread, I'd like to recommend Ace Combat X: Skies of Deception as one of your first games. The dogfighting is extremely satisfying, and it's one of those games where you'll have to enjoy multiple playthroughs of the story to unlock everything. I've never beaten it myself since I've only been able to play it on my cousin's PSP, but it's awesome.

Big, big, big waste of money. All the good games for PSP can't be played on PSP Go....

If you're thinking of getting a Go, just buy a PSP 3000 and a 16 GB memory card. It's the same thing, only with the UMD drive and it's larger so you probably won't cramp your hands.

Get a PSP 1000/2000 instead of a Go and softmod it; you can get homebrew, emulators, etc.

As for games, I'd highly recommend Daxter. Crisis Core and Resistance: Retribution are also good.

K. First, I'll start off this off by saying, get a 4 GB Memory Card if you intend on playing a lot of games. Definitely try Disgaea 1 and 2, it's a tactics-game. Now, moving on to jRPGs. -grins at Greg-

I'd highly recommend Tales of Eternia if you can get it for the PSP. It's not available in the US, but it is in United Kingdom, you can always buy it online and have your's shipped over like I did with mine. That was my first PSP game, I got it before I even got my console... Also try Monster Hunster Freedom Unite -grins wider at Greg-!!!!!! It's a great game with a really fun combat-system. I'm addicted to it, and I have no shame in admitting that. It's a great game. Also, look out for this game. And yes, it's for the PSP:

And if you like these type of games, also look forward to Phantasy Star Portable 2. I've played Phantasy Star Online v2 for the Dreamcast BACK IN DA DAYZ, and I loved it. >_> Big Grin

OKAY I CLAIM THIS THREAD BY FAR:

First, don't get the PSP Go, I tried it, it's awful. The L/R shoulder buttons suck, and the analog/D-pad combo sucks for some games like Assassin's Creed, Monster Hunter Freedom Unite and DJ Max. Plus the screen is smaller, and the buttons overall are too.

Second, if you're not anti piracy, get a PSP 1000 (phat model) or a 2000 (older slims), and softmod it. The homebrewing community for the PSP is HUGE, and there's a lot of games you can get because they're not available in your country. I did it with mine and I don't regret it at all (I have a GBA emu, a SNES emu and a DS emu just for kicks in my PSP 1000 fyi).

Third, if you're getting the PSP 3000, just please don't get the Go. PLEASE.

Okay list of cool games you should be looking for asap:

- Monster Hunter Freedom 1/2/2ndG/Freedom Unite
- Assassin's Creed: Bloodlines.
- Disgaea 1 and 2
- Final Fantasy Tactics: War of the lions
- IL2 Sturmovik: Birds of Prey
- Patapon 1 and 2
- Locoroco 1 and 2
- DJ Max Portable 1/2/Clazziquai Edition/Black Square
- Crisis Core: Final Fantasy
- Dead Head Fred
- Street Fighter Alpha 3
- N+
- WT'F: Work time fun (aka Baito Hell 2000)
- Tales of Eternia
- Soul Calibur
- Prinny: Can I really be the hero?
- Echochrome
- Half-Minute Hero
- Me & My Katamari (oh god I love this game and its OST)
- Viewtiful Joe: Red Hot Rumble!
- PES 2008~2010 (if you're into soccer games)
- NBA 2k10
- Dissidia: Final Fantasy
- Little Big Planet
- Valkyrie Profile: Lenneth
- Ys: Ark of Napishtim
- Need for Speed: Carbon
- Cabela's African Safari
- Dragon Ball Z: Shin Budokai

And that's where my saved games list of my PSP ends.

Also, just a reminder, every PS1 game works in the PSP. You'd probably need a Popsloader for some games, but that's legal.

EDIT: If you need advice on other games I'm working on expanding the list, I don't really remember all the names off the top of my head.
