Trouble Maneuvering with new Laptop

When I'm trying to move around maps and such, if I press the up and left key at the same time and try to jump, it wont. However, when pressing the right key, it will. Is there some setting that I can change for my laptop that will change this?

Thats the same problem I had with my XPS. You'll get used to it. Not sure if there is an way to change settings though, never really bothered to change anything. =P

This sort of thing happens with certain laptops. My EeePC doesnt let me hold ALT and <~ and use jump. Not sure why though.

Can't do it on my laptop either, I just got used to going left, jump, up instead of holding up ahead of time. You can't "catch" ropes until you're falling anyway, so you have the entire time you're jumping upwards to switch from jump to up. Moving from rope to rope is a little trickier...
