So in a nut (lol) shell, my brother is a huge jerk and rarely let's me play his 360..
I have my Gamertag, for almost 3 years now.. and few games.. I play his games too =X
Anyhoo, my birthday passed and my party is soon and I expect to get moneys and purchase my own Xbox 360 + Another MW2 copy
So I was wondering a few questions
Which Xbox 360 version should I get? (I have my own controller)
By recovering my gamertag onto my new hard-drive, what will I be losing that is on my former hard-drive?
Is getting a wireless internet connector worth it? How much?
(Currently, the xbox is wired internet to my wireless router downstairs but the new xbox would be upstairs)
Any other information I should know about?
Thanks Southperry

when i had my 360, i just connected it to my laptop, and that worked just fine. saves the money. all you need is an ethernet cable, and your good to go.

Wish that I had knew that before I bought mine. >_>
Anyway. I'd just suggest the "Basic" XBOX 360. Not the Arcade version, but just the one above that. All you need is a hard drive and pretty much good to go. I see no point in getting an Elite, or anything better. Unless you do store music, videos, etc onto the XBOX hard drive, I find it completely pointless. Yeah, maybe they have a HD DVD player, but hey, BluRay FTW.

Arcade has a 250 mb HD. It can save files, but no downloading game content, movies, etc.
Basic has a 60 GB HD, so you can save a lot of stuff. Guy at Target told me they discountinued that though...
MW2 Edition has like 250 GB or some crazy ass pomegranate.
Elite has 120. Elite and MW2 come with a headset... I THINK.
All xbox 360s come with controllers. MW2 set comes with two. Elite's casing and controllers are both black. Arcade and Basic are white.
You can buy an Aracade, buy an xbox HD, and hook it up, but I think it cost just as much as the Elite... :/
Buying a 50 foot Ethernet cable and taping it to the ceiling/wall is cheaper than the 100 dollar adaptor.

My input/what I member from shopping for an xbox this Monday(?).

So buying the Basic Xbox 360 would be the best..?
And using the wired internet cable to connect it to my laptop.. (it's like a USB port?)
I mean I'll just be playing games I buy and arcade games probably.. but will that be the only thing I will be able to do with the Arcade?

Well wireless = always more lag then using a normal UTP (network) cable.
Especially if you're gonna play shooters... -DON'T- go wireless... lagggg....
Just get a (custom length) network cable, and measure the number of meters you need first carefully (and add some extra meters of course). After that, just spend your time carefully hiding the cable that runs through the whole house, really it's much better then going for wireless...
Oh and about your xbox360... don't get the one without a harddrive, you'll miss out on a lot of xbox live content (free video's & demo's), other then that... just go for the cheapest xbox360+harddisk combo.

Mhm, I agree.
Sooo, definitely plug my network cable into my laptop? Or make my dad drill another hole into the basement ceiling and connect it to the router? xP
And.. Basic Xbox 360 = How much?
What other important stuff does it come with other than an HD and Controller?

What other important stuff does it come with other than an HD and Controller? I have no idea how it would work if you plug it into your laptop, but I guess you'll have to configure your laptop as NAT gateway server, which would be quite annoying and difficult if you don't know how to configure that...
The drill an extra whole will be your best option, it's worth the effort! Just make sure the UTP network Connector PLUG can also go trough the hole, otherwise you'll need to attach a new UTP Connector Plug yourself after you've put the cable through the whole itself. But don't you have a PC with internet in that room already? you can just hook up a cheap (10 dollar) 10Mbit switch there, then you don't need to drill extra holes in your house.
I have no idea on prices and/or content in the retail boxes on xbox360's in the USA... just ask around in some shops.
Btw, are you hooking up your xbox360 to your TV or do you happen to have a widescreen PC monitor? Mine is hooked on on a widescreen LCD monitor (with a xbox360 VGA cable) and the quality is just like playing games on your pc itself, really high (1680x1050).
Just remember if you want to do that, you'll also need a xbox360 vga cable...
P.S. I believe all new xbox360's have HDMI output now, for HD content if your TV has HDMI inputs and supports FULL HD (1080p).

I'd say based on what you've said, you might as well get the Modern Warfare 2 360. 360, two black controllers , a 250GB hard drive, and Modern Warfare 2 for $400.
You won't have to lose anything...if you want me to show you how, I'll give you a little picture tutorial when the time comes via PM if you wish.
The wireless is nice, but not completely necessary. If you have a good connection, there's not really a noticeable difference between wired and wireless. It's $100, by the way.
If you have a 250GB hard drive, you can just put entire games on it and play it from both the disc and the drive, reducing lag and increasing graphics and sound quality. If you don't have a hard drive or at the very least some memory cards, you won't be able to download anything.

There are currently 3 Xbox's on the market in production. The Arcade version (which sucks), the Elite (comes with 2 free games) and the Modern Warfare 2 limited edition. The other one, which is the Pro, is not in production anymore is hard to find, but not worth the money anymore.
If anything, I recommend getting the Elite. It comes with a harddrive, which instantly makes it better than the Arcade. Now, as you said you wanted Modern Warfare 2. Then I'd recommend getting the Limited edition one for $100 more (Elite - $300, MW2 - $400). You're getting twice a big of a harddrive as the elite (120GB to 250GB) and extra controller (on top of the one you already get) and a copy of Modern Warfare 2. Those 2 things in itself are worth the extra money, and you already said yourself you're getting MW2 so it's really only about $40 more.
As to what you'll lose, I believe every save for any game you have played. Recovering your profile only recovers your achievements. If you wanted all your saves, I believe you'd need a Official Xbox Memory card and to transfer your profile over onto that.
When it comes down to the Wireless or cord, I recommend just getting an Ethernet cable. You can see, 75 feet is $10 on Amazon, if you need more, they really aren't expensive. Most definitely better than buying a $100 Wireless adapter, and you will have a better connection to live.
Hope all this helps.

About wireless... it's only -good- when the wireless router is in the same room as the reciever (xbox360) is. When WIFI signals have to travel trough (multple) concrete walls / floors of houses, the signal will loose it's power (read: speed / latency) quite fast. The signal will still be there, but it throttles back in speed and latency as it gets weaker.
You will still be able to game online, but with FPS shooters it's -ALL- about latency. Ok, its less important on consoles then with PC fps games, but I would strongly recommend just go for the wire. It's cheaper and faster.
About the laptop method, remember you will always need a laptop around, and have it powered on while you game online.
Personally I would hate that after about 2 weeks.

That's not true at all. I used to think the same thing before I got my 360, since I knew I'd be playing online over a wireless connection, but the wireless adapter used with the 360 is flawless. I don't lag online, period. My computer is downstairs and my Xbox is upstairs, both on opposite sides of the house.

Well, like I said, gaming still works, and also the netcode for xbox360 games is quite good (it "hides" the lag for you), so you don't really notice the (little) lag, but it's just my personal experience, that WIFI is always a tad slower then wired UTP.
I play online FPS games for like 13 years now, and I can tell the difference between ping 10 and 30, so I guess I'm just spoiled... I guess that isn't noticeable for the average casual gamer.

True, how much longer is the MW2 Limited Xbox 360 out for? =/
I want it for Christmas!
And doesn't the Xbox 360 come with a network wire to plug into your router/laptop?

And doesn't the Xbox 360 come with a network wire to plug into your router/laptop? Most of the time it will be there till the new big hit game comes around for the 360 (that doesn't take years like the PS3 , haha, sorry, couldn't let this opportunity pass ), lets say spring 2010?
Till that time, the MW2 edition will be out most likely, especially around Christmas, this is the big shot for Microsoft this year!
About the wire... every PC store sells UTP network cables, in every kind of color and length, so if it's not included (which I doubt for that MW2 online edition) you can get one easy. They're very cheap also.
