What's the difference between VCDs and DVDs?

I still can't get it to this day. Goggleemoticon Anyone?

My VCD's aren't as high quality as the DVD. Like my 麥兜故事 VCD is pretty crap quality... things are blurry and sound isn't too great. My DVD's are much more clear~

Also, I've never seen a VCD for sale anywhere in Canada, except those Asian Stores that sell Fan Ban stuffs.

VCD: Video = Basic Mpeg 1 Codec / Sound = Mpeg1 Layer3, also known as mp3, yes mp3 Tongue
DVD: Video = Basic Mpeg 2 Codec / Sound = Dolby Digital / DTS
Blue Ray: Video = Mpeg 2 H.262 Codec or Mpeg 4 H.264 Codec / Sound = Dolby Digital / DTS

Yea, you only normally get VCD's at cheapo asian bootleg stores in Chinatown.
