Bad gameguard update?

Gameguard updated recently, and with that, Internet Explorer has been killed every time I start up MS. It won't work at all when it's running. It won't even close. It's been, to all intents and purposes, disabled. Gameguard's fault?

I hate IE. I'd AFK on Maple with it and it would just die. I switched to FireFox, and I've had no issues.

Sounds like you had a popup adware or something. We had one of those on a computer at school... luckily, it wasn't one of those porn ones like my friend had on his computer :x

And yeah, definitely, IE is pretty terrible. You'll be better off using basically anything else. Many of the features added into IE lately are longstanding features of other browsers even. I'm quite sure that IE because FF has such a large share of the market now, and to be honest, tabs was the number 1 draw to FF for me.

i have a similar problem, when im using maple i get an error when i use IE that says

You cannot enter "www.Southperry.net"

I tried Opera personally, but couldn't get used to it.

And notice that I also said that "You'll be better off using basically anything else," rather than simply saying "USE FIREFOX NOW!" In fact, other lesser known options would probably be technically better choices for someone making the switch from IE, but I've been using FF for a long time now and it's my own personal browser of choice, regardless of technical disadvantages-- I'm used to how it works and switching to another system with similar features, yet handles them differently would be really tough.

One of my friends updated GG too... only she got BSoDed when trying to run GMS. :x

I told her to wipe the GG folder and let MS reDL the whole thing fresh, and it did the trick.

I have an addon that gives me everything firefox has (and more actually, because it's ALSO extendable). And what with Firefox 3 actually running slower on my computer, I don't see any reason for ME to run it.

Like I said, IE pretty much gets disabled by gameguard now. You can't do a thing with it.

Well to be honest I have been waiting for this update for awhile. I guess they are thinking 'anythings possible' and since hacking technology is getting more advanced it won't be soon till you are able to hack from IE. In mean time however, use firefox.

That's not how gameguard works though (as far as I know). Also, it would kind of be impossible to hack from a web browser. This is just the gameguard people screwing up. You can't even install most programs (depending on the installer) while gameguard is running. It just ends up crippling half the system unintentionally and should be replaced by something better, probably developed internally by nexon and added to the actual game.

There's a difference here. I can't clearly say "Firefox took the idea for tabs from x browser" because I do not know it. But I can say that Firefox was cutting into Internet Explorer's install base by a relatively large margin, and it is clear that IE would look to it's upstart competitor when deciding things that need changing within its own design. This same sort of thing happens all over. Compare this to what happened with Rock Band and Guitar Hero. A full band game isn't exactly a TOTALLY original idea (Konami touched the same concept in the arcades of Japan long before this), but if Rock Band hadn't proved successful in this format, Guitar Hero almost certainly wouldn't have made the leap either.

Security... evil folks who mean to use their wits for evil tend to stick more exclusively to the most widely used software to rip apart security exploits. This is why it is much easier to get infected with a virus on a Windows system than a Unix-based one. By the same regard, it is easier to get messed up thanks to IE than FF (and by extension, it's easier to get messed up thanks to FF than Opera). Generally, so long as a browser is fully functional and supportive of your tastes, it is always best to use the less known of software.

In general though, open source software is of a better quality, so long as the project is active. And this is also assuming the open source software in question is something which is reasonably possible to achieve as a side project for a large group of basically anonymous programmers. An open source answer to Internet Explorer might be a reasonable endeavor, but I wouldn't expect an open source answer to Frooty Loops would hold up as well. Then there's the fact that there are open source projects available that serve as alternatives to expensive software, things like GIMP or Open Office.

I also used IE for quite a while myself. I was even able to avoid getting viruses and such as well. But now, I use Firefox because that's what I'm used to, I went through a period of trying things out and Firefox was the one that stuck for me. Admittedly, I should probably switch to something else (like Opera), but like you, I use what I'm used to. It is not absurd for me to desire to use Firefox still, because I chose it. Did you honestly shop around before choosing to stick faithfully with IE? And that aside, the most recent version of Firefox is easy as hell to get my hands on. I wouldn't have any idea how to get an install of IE7. And this is ignoring the fact that I need to use a non-installed version of a web browser at work; can you point me to such a build of IE7? Because I can point you to one for Firefox. Another of the benefits of being open source.

No, it's definitely SUPPOSED to cripple your system while running. It does it's best to maintain order so that nothing can slip by it. Of course, people work up ways to slip things by it, but that doesn't mean GG isn't going to keep on trying.

Except that if it stays open after MS closes, there's no way to close it out without having to restart your computer, which is just annoying.

You're not the only one. It used to appear in Task Manager, but not anymore for me either. I did remember what the process was called though.

You're right, except that I was taught how to tie my shoe when I was very young and have never forgotten. Finding a build of IE7 which does not require installation was never taught to me as a boy, however, and in never having to teach it to myself, I never learned.

Incidentally, does such a build of IE7 truly exist?
