How fun is DFO?
#1
I know its all about doing dungeons, but how fun is it in terms of pvp? I'm thinking of starting this game but only cause it has a pvp system. Anyone play DFO that has played WoW? I used to play WoW when I was in the states but now i cant cuz I moved to korea, and I used to LOVE the WoW pvp system. Like how each class has a skill that makes them useful/counter another class's skill, like Arena in WoW would actually take knowledge in your class and skill (Silencing spells, Using cool downs wisely, CC (Crowd control) one person while taking out the other). Is the pvp system in DFO similar to WoW where you actually do all these things to prevail, or is it more of like a beat em up kinda thing, like Street Fighter?

PvP is pretty balanced, the damage is based more on the skill level (fixed damage) than anything i believe, the really important advantage you have over the other opponent would be the stats that affects some skills and the hp growth.

Haven't PvP'd myself since i can't, and if you follow the guide i gave you on the other topic you "might" not be able to pvp..., but still, the PvE is really fun, and its just chaotic fun in parties.

Meh if the pvp is more of a street fighter kinda thing and doesnt involve tactics (although I shouldn't expect much pvp from a side scroller) I'd rather keep playing Maple. Maple is enough PvE for a lifetime. Tongue

Except maple is a grindfest, you actually enjoy this game...

And PvP does involve tactics, its not just running at your opponent face and deliver every kind of balistic object, magic skill or fighting move to destroy him, do that and watch as you get owned.

It DEFINITELY isn't. If you go in there with that mindset you get knocked the f'uck out. Like I did.

Just play the game, if you enjoy it, stay, but if not the go about your merry way.

You're saying that running up to an elementalist just to shoot at her, while she has mana shield and ice wall up is a good idea?

I think he agreed with you.

Oh... might've read him wrong then D:

DFO is definitely more fast-paced and action-packed than MS. MS has a handful of fun classes and there are a lot of things to do, but when it comes down to it the depth of the combat system is definitely not as good as DFO. MS takes very little skill and even if you suck at the game it usually just means you train a little slower and you have to buy an autoloot for your pet, while DFO actually takes a bit of timing and skill to beat dungeons and PvP (although you a lot of button-mashing still works in most cases, I think. The only class I've played is a Nen Master up to level 20, though). However, I don't think that's enough to make DFO the better game. For one, DFO pretty much has to be played with friends to be fun. I got my roommate playing with me and it's pretty fun doing dungeons together. It's kind of a throwback to Diablo and Gauntlet and definitely a good game if you like co-op multiplayer beat-em-ups. But there isn't a lot of multiplayer interaction going on. The chat interface is subpar, and even though there's a ton of people around the game has a completely linear series of quests that kind of forces you into specific areas to level up (simply doing dungeons without any goal in mind is awful exp most of the time), so you'll rarely find a party that will stick around for more than 2-3 runs. And there's not a lot to do outside of dungeoning and PvPing, so there's really no sense of community.

Another thing that may bother you, but that is unrelated to gameplay, is the complete lack of avatar customization. Everyone looks the exact same, the graphics are really crappy, and most of the avatar customizing involves NX and none of the limited selection of things to wear looked very appealing to me.

Definitely worth a try if you find some people to play with, but I can't see it as something I'd stick to.

The worst thing you can do is depending on others in this game... unless you know the people of course.

It helped me quit maple!

The PvP system in DFO is amazing. I haven't played WoW, but I can say that DFO is all about real-time strategy and having direct control of your character. You need to know your opponent, utilize the cooldown times of your skills, execute combos to prevent your opponent from countering, etc. And remember, both you and your opponent are simultaneously trying to accomplish these tasks, so it gets intense.

The variety of the classes is also amazing. Every class is unique, with different play styles and different tactics in battle.

WoW cranks it up to 11. It's called dynamically changing arenas, resilience (the more you PvP, the more equipment you get that lowers damage from your enemies), CROWD FUCKING CONTROL (this is among the biggest factors in winning), and burst damage (2-3 people ganging up on one person = dead in a few seconds). Not to mention you don't get the beginning of the battle to plan a strategy. You got less than a few seconds to recognize what are your opponents, what spec they are, and whether their gear is good.

DFO is more lax on dynamic strategy, but still requires quick thinking.

Yeah except any guy with full Sx tier can steamroll your ass, that if he's on top of the current tier list thanks to lol nerfs or lol buffs on classes.

This is what also makes WoW PvP harder than DFO. There shall always be flavor of the month due to a gimmick IWIN button, or one class has an overpowered advantage to all classes. DFO is a little more clear on who is what class's kryptonite. *Hinthint fighting Gunners with a Priest*

This. Although one point I'm not happy about is the lack of balanced maps to fight on. We have the Tavern, which is melee-centric, has tight corners and walls, and very little room to set up any kind of defense or maneuver. Then we have my favorite map, I forget the name, which is narrow, long, and has spikes in the center, which tends to screw over meleers as ranged/summoners can simply spam from opposite ends and flee if the enemy gets close. The 2nd map also has some pretty harsh fairies, including HP/MP restore, Super Armor, and Invisibility (nigh-invulnerable). I'd like to see some maps with obstacles like spikes that give ranged/summoners some room to avoid enemies, wide enough that it's difficult to get slammed against a wall and combo'd infinitely, and with NO fairies. Seriously, I hate them - even something as simple as the haste fairy gives a crazy advantage to certain classes (*cough battlemage cough*)

That map is BS and you know it.

Didn't I just say that? It's still my favorite map because of the spikes (I could care less about the long/narrow). I like the challenge of maneuvering around them and using them to escape. Like I said, I'd like to see a map that has some obstacles but isn't so severely ranged-advantaged. And who the hell thought Motopan was a good idea? Giant fans that push you in either direction on a SMALL map from even before the match stats? Blech.

But you said it's your favorite...therefore you enjoy watching melee run around in a futile effort to catch flying girls/gunners.

No, I enjoy it for the spikes, nothing else. Like I said, I want to see more maps that are relatively large with obstacles built in (but no frickin fairies god they piss me off). I get annoyed quickly at the only decent maps being too small for me to do much in. Having to use almost purely other classes skills in PvP is ridiculous. Anything a Launcher can do a Ranger or Spitfire can do better because they're more adaptable to close-range combat. Having my only choices be either extremely harsh on my class or extremely harsh on my opponents gets annoying, I'd like a fair fight once in a while.
