Typhon glitch has banned dozens, Nexon laughs
#1
First, you might wanna refer to these two threads at Nexon forums:

Typhon Auto Glitch Ban
http://forum.nexon.net/MapleStory/forums...hread.aspx

Nexon (Auto-ban system... i guess)
http://forum.nexon.net/MapleStory/forums...39582.aspx

The problem.
All users should be warned to stay away from Path of Peril, the map where Typhons appear. Ever since the Halloween event patch, people have found themselves banned while training there. It happens this way: you're doing whatever thing on the map, in most cases obviously killing, and then you get a window saying you've been banned for hacking. Most bans last 1 month.

Number of affected people.
You might wanna check the two threads above to see detailed lists of how many people from all servers have been banned. This not counting banned people that probably haven't posted at the forums. There are dozens of people with 1 month bans, and even a permanent ban. All of us have tried to contact Nexon through tickets, and are meanwhile organizing at the Nexon forums.

Nexon's reply.
They have showed no interest in unbanning people or attending the problem, in fact they seem pretty proud of their work. Ever since the Halloween patch in their Twitter website they've had 2 announces showing that they're very aware of bans, and that they're enjoying it:

MapleStory Twitter Wrote:GMs are creepy and kooky, mysterious and spooky, they're all together ooky, and they just banned 371 rule breakers.

and

MapleStory Twitter Wrote:1649 cheaters banned is sweet. Sweet like pie. Mmm, pie . . .

Other than that, Nexon has given us no reply, and it's common knowledge that GM's don't even check the game forums. So far the only few tickets that have been answered are automatic responses like these, where they basically just say that users are wrong and they're right, and that they're not getting unbanned:

Nexon's automated ticket reply Wrote:Greetings,

Thank you for contacting Nexon America's Customer Support team.

Unfortunately, your appeal to have your ban lifted early has been denied.
Your account will not be released from its block before the release date.
Many players believe that this may be an error, or that they are the victims
of a glitch or bug in our game. However, I assure you that this is not the case.

Be sure that you are not running any third party programs that enhance your
game play. It is recommended that you do not run any other programs while you
are playing our games.

Users are required to play by the rules.
You may want to review our Terms of Use for any concerns you may have.

Also, your account will temporarily be off rankings until the ban has been served.
As for whether or not you will be returned to rankings is yet to be determined.
You will need to wait patiently until your account is released to see if you are placed back on rankings.

Sincerely,

GM Libra
Nexon America, Inc.

People at Nexon forums are pissed, it's been a whole week for many since their ban, and the bans last 1 month. It's expected that Nexon will just decide to ignore it and give users no compensation, but that'd even be good luck for users that got permanently banned because of Hackshield's faulty malfunction.

The only real solution to this is to letter bomb NexonHQ. :/

They usually take time to fix glitches like this. Remember how long it took for them to fix the Orbis-Mulung bird(Hak) autoban?
But in reference to their twitter posts... They post stuff like that all the time

Quote:ONE perma ban, TWO perma bans, 2506 permanent bans! AH Ah ah... <lightning crash and thunder>
4:58 PM Oct 28th from web
Quote:Chaos, Panic, & 1888 cheaters banned. My work here is done!
5:52 PM Oct 19th from web
Quote:Never trust a F2ing Game Master. Especially one that is holding a Vicious Ban Hammer! 2854 cheaters were banned.
6:47 PM Oct 14th from web
etc..

Nexon's autoban system is so whack, it's unbelievable. Like when people got autobanned at Bent Tree and at Bigfoot, or the Orbis - Mu Lung bird glitch.

Is this autoban, MWLB or both? I've heard of MWLB doling out a couple of unjust CWK bans.

MWLB cannot do bans! Why do people place blame on them for the most random stuff?

I guess Nexon doesn't want people training at Typhons anymore.

Thank you, Fiel. It seems people just can't get it through their heads that all the blame being placed on the MWLB is just blind accusations. Sad

They blame them because it's basically instinct for us to blame something else/others for our own problems.

But sadly, like the constant bashing of GMs, or Nexon, the MWLB will be under constant fire as well now that they are becoming more known to the public. And despite constant explanations, or assurances, or proof, people still still blame them for anything they can think of.

I fail to see how a faulty ban is one of our own problems.

They can flag users they THINK are hacking and therefore possibly lead to more bans? >_>

I agree but I expect them to have more in-game knowledge and common sense than actual GMs.

Not to mention Nexon has put so much work into finding these little angels and advertising them that they probably investigate any case opened by them within the day.

But the chances of it in this case are small anywho.

Copy pasta from when I got banned at Blue Wyverns. Different GM name though.

Apparently at least some of the banned have now been unbanned. Somebody, somehow must have convinced a GM that their beloved autoban occasionally misfires.

^Yup. I'm the reason LegendGospel posted this thread. I was banned on October 28th because of that Glitch, and today, after the server manteinance, seems that several people have been unbanned, and I'm glad to be in that pouch.

What bothers me, tho, is that they have handled this issue very underground: they haven't alerted people (I'm not going to Typhons ever again until they announce there was a glitch, and that they have fixed it), they haven't given a public apology to us, who have been treated like cheaters, and they haven't given compensations for the NX we lost. But it's Nexon, I believe I can't ask much.

A friend was unbanned as well. He's still wary of going to typhons though.
