Rock... Going out of style?
#1
Rock was a huge thing ever since Elvis made his big appearance in the early-mid 1900s, but has its time finally ended?

All of my family members only like country music, rap, and R&B. I'm the only one in my family (extended families included) that even likes any kind of rock. If I play music around them, they tend to call it shitty music and then proceeds to yell at me to turn it off or put on headphones.

If that's not bad enough, all of my friends only tend to like techno, screamo, rap, R&B, and the works. When I put up a video (such as a maple video or XFire live broadcast), all of my friends and other randoms tend to call the music shitty and then proceed to lecture to me that I should be listening to the music they listen to (90% of the time, it's screamo).

Is rock going out of style? It sure seems like the majority of the population is making a U-turn away from Rock music and head-diving into other genres.

That's just a few of the songs everyone has called 'shitty' lately. How are those songs bad?! I don't get it...

I understand that everyone has the difference of oppinion, but it just doesn't seem like anyone likes rock anymore. If I do find someone, it's extremely rare to.

I listen to rock all the time. And all of my friends prefer Rock and Pop to Rap and R&B. Idk where you're living, but rock is sure as hell alive.

Well first of all, there's massive hate on japanese rock in america for obvious reasons, so i don't really know why you put that up there.

Second of all, nickelback has sucked ass from the beginning, seether is still enjoyable, and 3 doors down is overplayed.

Ok... What about AC/DC, Kiss, Queen, and other older rock bands that everyone tends to bash me about when I listen to them? Everyone that I know tends to hate rock with a passion, for some odd reason.

Ok... What the hell is wrong with Nickel Back? >_>

Psh, rock? It's all about paper nowadays. Everyone knows paper beats rock.

On a more serious note... who the heck cares about what's "in style" anyway? If it's out there and you like it, listen to it. Anyone that gives you a hard time for it is a douche.

You should be happy that you listen to something that isn't "in style." It gives you individuality.

it's a "rebellion" type music.
It's hard to understand unless you understand history in the 1950's and 60's, when rock really took off.

Same with me except for a select few girls that claim that a couple songs are pop >_> might be 'cause quite a bit of people stick with "Rock music = Devil" stereo-type and tend to shun it w/o thought. I used to not like rock at all before I started to listen to a few old-school groups and present day ones. After that, I was all "wtp is rhap?" Really, it just may be the agression behind some of the music that people can't vibe with, but I see rap going out of style with all its auto-tune, and dance crazes before rock n_n

If your friends are bashing Queen, you need to find new friends. Goggleemoticon

Actually, it is probably because this is music your parents would generally approve of. That tends to be how music evolves, you make/listen to music the older generation doesn't approve of. If your parents like it then it isn't in style.

Well as far as the "underground" scene is concerned new forms of rock are always popping up.
The mixing of musics is common and popular.
Currently the latest big rock movement to my knowledge is the rererereviving of the rockabilly/psychobilly scene. Glitter

Fu'ck them man, rock isn't dying at all. Nor going out of style. Music evolves. Popular bands nowadays have a totally different sound of those that used to be popular 20/15 years ago.

I don't like rap, R&B, etc. at all. They can go die.
I still prefer actual rock music, mostly from classics like Queen. ;;<__<

Nickelback just.. sucks.

Well on one of Jay-Z's interviews he said that rock WAS slowly dying which gave way to HIP-HOP. Hiop-hop became the "new" style of music that everyone started listening to. It was like a new religion that had all the answers, but recent events such as soulja boy, GS Boys, B-Dash and more have destoryed the true meaning of hip-hop. This lead to Lil' Wayne going towards rock and 'audiotune' music causing everyone to follow. That's why he wrote D.O.A. to tell rappers, "Hip-hop is heading in the same direction as rock, we need to get on another route and progress better."

So if a genre is "dead" it's cause the major population left it. You just support your genre like Jay-Z is and a miracle might happen.
