(I actually summoned and started attacking a minute later!
lol 149 is still 14x
Sunday September 27 2009, I soloed Zakum. There's plenty of people who've done this, but I think (correct me if I'm wrong) I'm the lowest leveled marksman and the first strengthless one to do it.
The fight lasted 2 hours 59 minutes, I used about 1600 gingers, 220 allcures, 15 apples and 2 gelts. I took some video footage which I'll eventually turn into an actual video, my youtube account being the same as my sleepywood one. The mobs didn't cause toooo much trouble (except at the end when my apple ran out and I was too cheap to use one for 3-4 minutes) and it was fun timing my snipes to only hit zak when I had a clear shot at him so it wasn't the regular "stand still and spam attack/potions/apples until you win or fall asleep". To any marksmen planning on trying this, frostprey is cool until middle of second and middle of 3rd body when he starts summoning the blue guys which are immune to ice so FP will do more harm than good.
Why did I do it?
Spoiler
Being the first strless marksman (of any version of maple?) to solo him just seemed like a cool accomplishment. I enjoy doing just about anything playing as a marksman so yes even shooting at a rock and his minions for almost 3 hours was pretty fun. Some of you guys train at the same monsters for 4 hours a day everyday so don't give me your "that would be so boring you have no life" crap . I had apples/mesos to burn and maxed out my snipe when I reached level 149 so I thought if I was going to solo at all, it should be at my most oppertune and meaningful time.
Csengery's level 133 solo (as a shadower and the lowest level zak solo I know of) and sirjofrose's solo (as a Khainian marksman) inspired me to do this, but it was actually seeing Csenergy's video again that got me off my ass and made me go "Ok I'm doing this". The challenge of zakum isn't so much killing him as it is killing him quickly and efficiently, and I beat my own expectations while killing him at a relaxed speed and chatting with buddies and telling them about my progress.
Of course I also did get some nice exp out of it. I also got a few decent books, my first Zakum card (), 2 helms that I had no use for, and TT10 (S> this on Khaini ).
Most importantly I soloed him to push my character to his limits and test out what he can really do. To show that while being a strengthless marksman isn't for everyone, if done right it can work small wonders.
Thanks to the people that inspired me (in the spoiler) for uh, inspiring me; and the people of Khaini's Vindication zakum runs for helping me get inside. If you want to know what my equips are you'll have to content yourself with the answer of "they're pretty good, but nothing amazing by cross-server merchanter standards". I use a 114 attack Maple Nishada though, if that tells you anything . My damage range without apples/buffs is like 44xx-54xx I think, I'll check it when I get home as well as adding more screenshots.
If you want to tell me how being strengthless at my level (or at all) isn't a good idea, this topic and more importantly the solo is my counter. So unless you know of a level 14x-15x marksman who soloed a lot faster than I did you have no case. I know my math and for now I'm making the right choice by staying strengthless. If you have any questions or comments (and not criticism of soloing zakum or being strengthless), I'll be here to answer em. I'd read why you wouldn't want to solo zak, but not why I or others am stupid for doing it - makes sense?

27 marksman boost
30 snipe
1 of pretty much everything else but blind/mw, 2 in pierce
Congrats. I remember when you were just an up and coming marksman.
As far as strengthless is concerned, who cares. Seriously, maple is such a relatively simple game with very little leeway in builds. If you enjoy your marksman 'strengthlessly', then good for you.
Nice, that's a minute faster than I did it on my Bowmaster at 152. Though, that was a long time ago. Blue summons suck ass, eh? I hate how they fly just barely above your head to make you MB every now and then, but you can't actually hit them unless you AE.

They had a few brief shining moments of being extremely annoying but most of the time they were shot down before they ended up over my head. At least we have AE/AR though, unlike poor NLs who... I'm not actually sure what they're supposed to do in that situation. Do they use that ninja knockback thing?

I think you're grasping at straws to feel special. Congrats on the solo and all, but Zakum is small time.
Name me a bigger possible that he could possibly solo..? 30 people can't beat pink bean, let alone one and the HT timer makes it impossible. Well he could solo a HT head but that's more of a waste of money.
Opeth Wrote:What I meant was soloing Zakum is nothing special anymore. Much like seeing people level to 200, yet my screen gets slammed in pink everytime.
It's not some unbelievable feat, but I did do this in my 14x and while strengthless. While it's obviously not impossible, it hasn't been done yet so I figured some people might want to hear about it. I felt special enough about it by myself without needing attention, but if enough people think it's something worth taking notice of, then they'll drop a message in the same way you did.
Oh and to clear something up I'm the only strengthless marksman and the lowest of any sort of marksman, rather than a combination of the two.
I love how I'm picked apart for giving an opinion.
We play in the wonderful world of GMS: Land of the Broken Equips. Not to mention Onyx Apples. There's a reason why you don't see too many Zakum solos from other versions of MS, yet anyone who has enough funding can solo Zakum on GMS.

Er, if you don't want to be 'picked apart' dont give an opinion thats rude and underminds an accomplishment.
gMS is the most broken version by far. Yes, it's pretty easy to notice. Though, at the end of the day, when it comes down to anything, a Zak solo is still regarded as a solo. So, congrats on your accomplishment as a high 14x strless Marksmen.

Actually I think cms is the most broken version with their 'almost free white scroll' event a year or two ago, and their 'mind of maple' pendants that gave something like 52 weapon attack, but who's keeping track of things like that?

I don't think we take CMS seriously. We just call them a bunch of hackers.
Big congrats! Although, i just thought i'd point out that csengery at 133 isnt the lowest level solo. CS soloed at 133 on his shadower, and 119 on his dragon knight.
