How much of a Stat is 1 W.Atk?
#1
I seem to recall reading somewhere that for your main stat 5 Stat = 1 Attack, so a Warrior would need 5 Str for 1 Attack. Is this true? What about secondary stats? And tertiary stats? (Str for Thieves)

it all depends on your level and current stats. its not 1 set ratio

So does it fluctuate to the point where you would need more of x stat to total 1 attack as you increase in level, or the opposite? Is there some kind of average? Does the ratio change each time you level or every x levels or something? Goggleemoticon

I underlined everything that's correct.

Every time the stats that affect your damage (str/dex for warrior, bowman, pirate, or str/dex/luk for bandits, or luk for assassins) changes then the ratio changes. Also if your total attack changes it changes.

You don't really need to level up, any change in equipment stats would do it.

In general due to the way equipment stats are, it starts at about 2:1 and drops as you level up. By 120 it's around 4:1 to 5:1 depending on class, and by 200 it's as much as 8:1.

I see. I mostly wanted to know to see if a cape with high enough str/dex could compete with a PaC, although I do know a MoN is better than a HT Pendant in essentially all circumstances.

Except Magic Attack for Mages and for INT purposes.

Probably the best way to determine which piece of equipment is better for you (unless it gives some speed/jump) is to just crunch the numbers and use algebra if necessary. I hope you know how to do algebra and how to set up problems o.O

Starting at about 2/10 (and 3/6, 4/2, 5+atk) it's pretty unlikely for a YAC to beat the stats of a pink cape.

<3 3 atk 13 str Taru Spirit cape ;P

Back when I was around lvl 100 on my Paladin, my 3 Att 7 STR Pac gave me barely 10 more dmg in my range than a 15 STR Goblin Cape.

As for the whole thing of Stat = W. Att, it changes as you level up, and it also changes depending on the TYPE of weapon you use, thanks to the formulas. For some weapons, Att gives more damage than with other weapons.

That means your STR is relatively low for your level/other gear Tongue I try to be balanced in my purchases, I've stayed around 4.5:1 for the last 20-30 levels. A 3/7 cape = 20 str cape for me (3/13 -> 26).

A clean Taru Spirit Cape is 5 str 3 atk 10 avoid.

Considering I had 100 base DEX back then, I can understand it. I'm better now, with my 75 base.
I also didn't have any scrolls on my gear back then, besides my sword and cape.

Just use JoeTang's maple calculator (provided you're not using vista, which makes the boxes go all over the place). It's very handy. Make sure you use an attack potion!

x = S/A, where x is the amount of str you need to gain the same amount of max damage as 1 point of w.atk. S is your current strength, and A is your current attack.

Level is completely irrelevant. Leveling up doesn't necessarily mean you'll go and add more strength (although most people do), and getting more strength doesn't necessarily mean you leveled up (equipment, job change etc.).

Not necessarily =/= completely irrelevant.
If you don't level up most likely you don't have much of a liberty to add more stats. If you level up most likely you'll want more dmg. But yea, most likely =/= definitely either, I'm just pointing out a random lame thing. Goggleemoticon

Stereo's estimation can be taken into consideration, around 120 it should be 5:1 whereas 40~70 should be 3:1. Just for comparison.

I'm a tad too lazy to check the exact amount, but I'm pretty sure 1 att is pretty dang close to 10 luk for me now.

Sin/hermits/NLs have it easy: Lucky 7 and Triple Throw damage is calculated off of the product of your luk and weapon attack, so you just divide the two.

Oh yea thats true. However avenger and drain is not based on that formula, and even if they are not used as much, a good NL make use of them too. It's also worth to mention, though slightly off topic, that wep att makes no diffrence for venom, thats based on mainly luk and str, secondary dex.

It's irrelevant because it's not in the equation needed to calculate how much str = 1 atk (for warriors). I could not know a thing about someone's level, all I need is their strength and attack. Hence it's irrelevant.

Not completely irrelevant. Tongue
I don't think I ever implied that it wasn't irrelevant, if it's inferred that way, I apologize, but I was stressing on the extraneous 'completely'.
