Yeah I think so.
As ranged chars are the only type that interest me I was thinking about going back to my Outlaw or Hermit or starting a Bowmaster(yes I have HurricaneEnvy ) but it hit me that I'll miss out(again) on so much content making a char with regular hp that its not even worth my time.
I'm sure others can come up with the hard numbers of the Hp/level you need to be able to survive Pap/Pianus/Zak or even train at places like Newts/Skelys or Time Temple if you go the regular HP route. Sure you can put AP into HP without washing it out but you will be much the weaker for it, especially as you need to sink 150-200+ AP into HP if you want to be able to HT/Been or face a number of other bosses we have yet to get, and dont forget places like Neo Tokyo.
Unless you sink billions of meso on Int gear and hundreds(if not thousands) of Nx into them you will find that in the end, unwashed ranged chars have been a waste of time. This isnt a rant I'm just giving people a heads up.

Yeah, I agree with you. Without enough hp, ranged classes are quite limited to where they can boss or train...

You are wrong. Wrong. Wrong.
I didn't start HP washing until my mid 16x's, NEVER leveled with INT equips before that and I still am capable of battling EVERY boss to date. I barely have 5.7k HP WITH a MoN and there's nothing in the game that I can't do.

Unless I'm way off, I'll only need a total of around 40 points in HP by 155 to do HT. PB is the only one that gets ridiculous... (and I projected it at 140 AP, not the 150-200 you say)
Still means over the next 70 levels, I need to add enough MP to wash 103 more times, ie. 34+ MP gained per level (190-200 int gear), if I didn't want to double-wash.

That's usually how it works after devoting thousands upon thousands of hours in an attempt to reach near end-game.

As much as I want to try to dispute your argument using Shippo's argument of adding AP into HP, it really does annoy me how squishy ranged classes are. Melee and mage classes get to have more fun screwing around in Maple because they can actually take hits. Heck, I only invested about 50 AP into HP washing and I already gained 2k HP, something unfunded ranged classes can only dream of getting. Compare a Bowmaster trying to gain that much HP to take a hit from Pap. They would need about 100-120 INT from level 50ish to get that much to wash. At least I think they need that much INT to HP wash 2k HP.

Ranged classes have more fun in Maple because they can actually avoid taking hits:f6: Do you know how many pots my Night Lord uses to kill HH? 1 Sorcerer Elixir. When I was level 9x it took 2 Sorcerer Elixirs. My Paladin is by no means weak (esp. on a Lightning-weak boss) and I still use 60-70 Ginseng to kill it. BF/Crow/Anego are already possible for my NL, the Paladin has to wait a couple dozen levels to get enough HP.

I have washed no more than 30 times. And yes, you can survive PB by having merely 9k HP with HB.
P.S: Your GM scroll can fund you 30 AP resets.

Burning pots costs mesos. Dying costs Safety Charms (NX), and if they don't have charms it can be a massive time waster. Mesos are always gainable in game. NX isn't gainable by everyone (those who don't know how to properly gain NX using MTS).

oh yeah I forgot about those bosses...helps that you chose a ranged class thet can keep them constantly KB'd and dont need to tank 10+k damage.

If you don't burn pots, it's easier to gain mesos ingame There's at least an order of magnitude difference between the amount of money my Paladin made from 70-120 and the amount my Night Lord made (ie. 50 vs. 500mil), which I'd attribute to not spending money on pots (about 100mil) and finding better drops (the rest). Then again, even if I were to be a WK again, I wouldn't be able to train on Nightshadows or Newties, or kill the bosses I did to get those drops.
Why yes, I did choose a ranged class that can KB well. ;P

*Intend? o.o But um really...what does "completing a game" entail in Maplestory? lol I'm pretty sure not everyone is striving for level 200 (I'm not). And some of us have computers that are hindersome for end-game bossing, like vista DCing me in HT.
And I agree with the topic starter...I knew when I started my night lord that I was going to HP wash it because all I wanted from the NL was the experience of playing an attacking character at bosses. And realistically, that requires HP washing unless I wanted to train it to levels which I really preferred not to.

9k hp will get you to ariel, you need 14k after that.

No, you think so because you are completely incapable of seeing the positive side of things. Or enjoying the small things. Nothing will EVER make you completely happy with this game, and you KNOW it. That's your nature. I'm not trying to be mean. I have nothing against you, and I respect you because you're a long-time Beran Bowman who plays cleanly, like myself.
That said, I flat out, completely and 100% DISAGREE with nearly every point you try making, especially in this thread.
Chameleonic Wrote:Sure you can put AP into HP without washing it out but you will be much the weaker for it
False. You will not be MUCH weaker. You only think so because your standards are too high or, simply, because you've never done it. I put 50 points into my HP. 24 of them remain UNWASHED. That means I'm about 5 levels lower, dex-wise, than other 171 Bowman. Guess what that means? NOTHING. At such a level, it doesn't affect my training at all. I'd be willing to bet ANYTHING that I could clock the same %/h as another Bowman my level at any training spot (or more, if I'm better at training there). For bossing? Of course it will lower my DPS, but does that mean I'm weak? No, my goodness. I'm not "godly," but I fail to see how 20k peak criticals with Hurricane using 20 att pots is bad.
Pink Bean is a frickin' retarded example to use, period. You don't need to wash 150+ times to be able to PB. Maybe if you want tank the huge hits, but it's not required. You only need to do the kind of washing I've done to be able to survive most of the damage at PB. Regardless, why would you WANT to PB? It's a pathetic waste of time anyway. It shouldn't even be factored in unless you're crazy.
If you refuse to sacrifice some DEX, which is absolutely stupid, either learn how to use the MTS to do some minor washing or deal with having lower HP! Your problem is you think it takes too long to level in this game and you don't enjoy training. Hell, you don't enjoy MS, period. I could give you a 10k base HP Bowmaster, and I guarantee you would end up right back to where you are now in a short amount of time: Bored, unsatisfied and frustrated.
Simple point for those who DO enjoy MS: Don't be afraid to give up some damage for more survivability. I promise you it's worth it, especially if you're unhappy with the thought of waiting longer to do certain things. If you don't mind pushing to those high levels with lower HP, all the more power to you.

I'm unwashed, I've got 4.4k HP, I don't care about PBing or HTing, I'm good for everything else, and I'll be able to do those bosses by 180 anyway. I don't think I'm wasting my time. Have a good day. Or not.

Fun to switch around in a while, you don't have to wash ranged-classes, people only 'want' to to fight HT or whatever the hell..
As for HP, I went from DK to NL, now to Soul Master. Fun to switch around, ranged classes tends to be more costly 'from personal experience', but I enjoy my ranged classes more usually, due to the abundance of avoid and less pot-spammage.

According to some posts in this same Forum, all you need is 9k HP... I heard the Genesis attack can be avoided.
If you indeed need 14k, that's not as bad because MW30 will eventually come out off those gachapon boxes.

What are you getting at? There's thousands of people in their 17x~18x who still enjoy Maple, but don't see a point in grinding now that they've got their useful 4th job skills maxed out. It's stupid to have to grind 191 levels just to survive Pink Bean without paying for resets.
